Without doubt, Capcom is one of the largest and oldest third party publishers out there, some of us even grew up with Capcom, playing each Mega Man title one by one on the old NES. Unlike the others, Capcom weathered the recession and still remains one of the more prominent players in the industry today. Here are 15 franchises that Capcom has to thank for its success.
Too bad Breath of Fire is just at #11, loved that franchise. Dragon Quarter on PS2 wasn't all that good, and we have yet to see a current gen installment. Heck, they don't even have one for the handhelds. Oh well. |

» monster hunter...
haha. monster hunter got even without the help of international market. i wonder if it'd gain better rank if it had been exposed internationally. well, with what they've been marketing now for the monster hunter unite. i guess it's better late than never. the old monster hunter never really did see the light of the day. but it was damn good though. too bad not that many people knew about it worldwide. OR i guess it's not their cup of tea maybe.

» Breath of Fire Dragon Quarter was good
It just didn't get such a high reception, even from fans of the BoF series, because it was a new type of gameplay in the series and the difficulty of the game.
I think the difficulty is perfect. Hard enough to provide a challenge, but just the right difficulty to where you can actually beat it in the first go through the game. For those it's a bit too difficult for, the restart system allowed for you to keep party exp when getting a game over or restarting the game to keep party exp.
The gameplay was good and the game had a great story as well, the only bad thing about it is that to see it all you had to repeatedly beat the game.

» dragon quarter
it was alright
i liked the difficulty level, enjoyed the battle system, but the linear progression and the less-than-upbeat combo-ing eventually bored me stiff..
compared to the previous BoF titles, dragon quarter didn't meet the standard, IMO.. to think it was the one on PS2

» Hmmm
You guys should notice the amount of units sold per release.
Pretty interesting...

» I did just that...
Out of the top 5 franchises, Devil may cry sold the most copies per release, Monster hunter was 2nd, but as people have previously stated, basically with no international presence. Copies sold per release is a great indicator of profits generated, so to me this means that these are the two most important franchises capcom has, trumping even Resident evil by a wide margin.

Why the hell did they totally ruin their best selling franchise with the aborted crack baby offspring of the original Resident Evil game? I'm talking the horrible abomination called Resident Evil 5. Crap story, horrible voice acting, shi*ty controls, annoying antagonists (that includes the same f*cking enemy from the original game. A new twist though, a NEW virus. WOW never expected that....

» dude wtf
i understand not liking the plot but damn, re5 is one amazing game. i still havent played it much since i beat it but wtf is wrong with you re5 is a damn fun solid game regardless of what franchise spawned it. story may have been subjective to personal taste but theres a lot of it and it was great. if the enemies are annoying you, try killing them. why-tf wouldnt you bring back the same boss? it worked for megaman. (2nd from the top i might add) some ppl are just impossible to please. just keep playing the gcn re1 over and over again. i would support your comment if you were just upset that they completely ruined the genre, changing it from action-adventure to 3ps-action. they would have done better just changing it to rpg if you ask me. i liked the adventure part of resident evil the most.
