It's confirmed. The silver-haired monster hunting amnesiac is back and this time in console form. As mentioned in a previous article, The Witcher: Rise of the White Wolf has been rebuilt from the ground-up and will be coming out in the PlayStation 3 and the Xbox 360. It is expected to come out sometime in autumn, 2009. This latest project by Atari and CD Projekt RED was unveiled during the ATARI LIVE showcase event in London earlier today (December 2).

The Witcher: Rise of the White Wolf is going to be based off the story of the original Witcher for the PC but will be sporting a new engine to bring it up to date with the current gen games. It will also get a new combat system as well (good news for me, since I found the original system a little clunky).

For those of you who missed the original Witcher for the PC, the basic need to know is that it won the PC role-playing game of the year, 2007. This was in large part due to the freedom of choice players are allowed while progressing through the game's story. On the other hand, it suffered some backlash because of a somewhat generic storyline (hey, it's a fantasy game. What were they expecting?).
