Just because Gabe Newell thinks that the PS3 is a waste of time,
doesn't mean that Valve Corporation is closing doors on the console
altogether. In fact, Valve's PR exec, Doug Lombardi, expressed that the
company is "up on the idea" of developing for the PS3. Who cares what
their managing director thinks?I'd sure like to know what ol' Gabe said when his staff at Valve decided to aim for PS3 development. At any rate, the problem for the developer now lies with their lack of PS3 experience. Sure, they have a strong Xbox 360 and FPS background, but they haven't quite explored the Sony console just yet. "We have to get people under our roof who are dedicated, talented PS3 guys and then all bets are off," Lombardi said. So does that mean Valve is hiring? "Valve is always looking to hire people. So yeah, definitely," he said. Left 4 Dead 3 for PS3, anyone? Media Molecule is also hiring: |

» just.. WOW
An employee says its a waste of time. Then the company turns around and says they would like to develop for the console. Sounds to me like "Gabe" has some sort of grudge.

said that back in 2007 I think. Last year he (I'm sure it was Gabe) was said that it's getting hard for them to ignore nearly 20 million potential customers. A year on and they still haven't got a team together? I'm not surprised.
Still, I would only buy a Valve game for PC. I was unimpressed by the graphics of L4D when compared to the older HL2 or CS:S (L4D on the 360 was fugly).
I only hope that when they do get around to releasing Half-Life 3 (probably in 4 yrs time with a new game engine) that Valve release a decent successor to Counter-Strike: Source.

Despite what one of their employees says, Valve as a company would be dumb to turn their back on either of the 2 hardcore consoles. Despite being behind the 360 now, analysts are prediciting it will turn around. Even if it doesn't, it's still selling well, and they would still be missing out on a very large piece of the pie even if it never does better than it is now.
It seems to me that it's almost silly to completely turn away a console because it's harder to develop for, especially since you have 2 very large studios in Insomniac and Guerilla that have put out great titles for the PS3, and have offered to share their experience and information to anyone else developing for the black beast.

» Haha, I had a vision of this.
Gabe doesn't equal Valve. He's a bighead, but he doesn't oversee everything. It's great to see this news, but I personally hope there isn't a L4D3 for a long ass time. Portal 2 and Episode Three are long overdue.

I think Gabe's breathing is a waste of us human's air. He should be put down.
