Now that people have had more time to test and collect games for all the different platforms, GameTrailers has also been able to spend more time watching people play on both. That's why there's yet another graphical comparison test here, and this time, it's for Sega's Virtua Tennis 3 for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

Like our previous coverage of the Elder Scrolls IV graphical comparison, this quick video also takes a look at the similarities and differences between the two consoles using similar moments of play. In this case, you'll be watching two players taking their rackets to the court in a friendly game of tennis, complete with comparisons of the character models as they wipe the sweat off their foreheads.

Who do you think edges out the other graphics-wise? We're still undecided ourselves. Take a look and let us know if you think the PS3 or XBox 360 wins out this time.

 » Slightly darker on 360...

Hard to say if it's due to HDR or just plain overall darker. As far as everything else goes, it seems to be identical...however I don't think this game looks that great in the first place....damn PS3 holding back games...

   Re: ytryr (Unregistered) - 2007-03-24
» The same but no online for PS3

Exactly the same, and the 360 version monitor was adjusted far to low on brightness or contrast a stupid point to miss when comparing Two systems.

I wouldnt buy this for the PS3 (if I had one) due to there being no online which is a massive difference unless it only costs half the price of the 360 version.

It's just plain stupid to compare the two using compressed video.

You are a tool, the monitor has absolutely NOTHING to do with the darkness. They capture the video BEFORE it goes to the monitor! Amazing....

Ps3 is lighter and the easy way you can tell which is better by looking at he hair

At one point it shows them walking away showing there side faces and there hair.

xbox360 has high detail but it looks too much like all one peice on the back and 0.9% plastic

ps3 Also has high detail but if you look close you can almost c each individual strand of hair and the back also has strands so it doesnt look like one peice.

And you cant just look at the vid once and say "o they both look the same" or "o i cant tell" you have to observe it MULTIPLE times to tell the difference even if it is on a low resolutuin

   Re: HM (Unregistered) - 2007-03-24
 » Oh please

"Ps3 is lighter and the easy way you can tell which is better by looking at he hair"

Don't be silly. If you have to go to such lengths to spot a difference and, even then, only see it after multiple viewings, then there's not enough to say one is better than the other. They ARE the same.

Yes, her hair looks slightly sharper in the PS3 version, but how much of that is that due to the brightness levels in the video? How much is due to the encoding? How representative is this when the rest looks the same? Are there specific times when certain little details look better on the 360 version?

Whatever it is, these versions are obviously VERY close to eachother, so it's nonsense to declare a winner from a video with less detail than the game itself.

"wtf are you talking about...both versions are online..."

The PS3 version does not support online play.

(Change the plus character to equals in that link to make it work. Not sure why this happens on QJ)

"The only slight downer about VT3 is what we're not getting - there's no online play. For reasons known only to Sega and Sony and the tea lady who eavesdropped in on the meeting, the online play featured in the Xbox 360 version is missing in PS3 Virtua Tennis 3...."

 » nonsense popculture

these comparisons are always here and there.
no matter which version is better it always comes down to sales, and even if 50 percent of total 360 users buy this game and all of the ps3 users buy this, the ps3 is still short due pretty much small market compared to 360. the ps3-360 battle will really start when bought consoles have almost the same number of user base. by next year both maybe near the 15 to 20 million userbase, by then we can see whose dominating and who's flopping.

First off I just want to say I own both a x360 and PS3 so im not out to slam one or the other. But from this video it look like the PS3 version doesnt do a lot of close-ups where as the 360 goes all out. It looks to me that the PS3 is trying to cover up bad textures and framerate. But just like every other 360 to PS3 comparison I have to say that the contrast and overall light looks slightly better on the PS3. In the end, the visual display doesnt matter, I'm buying the 360 version because I have a lot more friends on xbox live than I do on PSNetwork. Don't get me wrong, I do still love my PS3!!!! When it comes to multi-platform games with online, i will probably always buy the 360 version, I am not impressed with PSNetwork at all, resistance has way too much lag for me, I dont ever get lag on XBL. It's just that, right now, xbox live provides a much better online experience. I really hope sony pulls through with PSN. I keep looking at my shiny new PS3 and I get excited thinking about whats to come, but then again I also love my 360. I guess I'm just a gamer at heart, not some silly fanboy who throws all his eggs in one basket.

Honestly i don't know how you came to that conclusion from the video. I'm pretty sure the PS3 version is identical. It's a very short video and it only displays about 4 second of proper comparative video at the start with the match intro.

My PS3 lags quite badly at times especially on Resistance, but my old xbox1 runs fine with Halo.I suppose thats the difference One I pay for and One I dont.

I have yet to experience any lag on Resistance or any other ps3 game online. They are solid as hell and I definitely can't say that about games on xbox live. Amazingly close considering each version was developed by a different studio. Sumo developed the 360 version and AM2 developed the PS3 version.

I think I like this game. The demo grew on me and the mini games look really fun.

Unfortunately for PS3 owners no online game play, ouch. What's up with that?

No online gameplay for the PS3, there is all the difference I need to see.

   Re: Squid (Unregistered) - 2007-03-24
 » Re:Devise

PS3's doesn't have online on alot of games because Sony doesn't host the servers for their "free" online. The game makers have to host and maintain their servers (similar to PC games). Microsoft hosts servers for X360 games, that's why every one is online (everyone that it makes sense to be) and that's why we pay for it.

And YET when YOU play the game, you are ABLE to adjust the lighting and contrast yoruSELF.. yso your point is moot... The 360 version would be grightened on anyones monitor...

   Re: Oner001 - 2007-03-24
 » ...

WOW you just don't get what he said do you? No wonder you are a MS fanboy....adjusting the brightness still doesn't take away from the fact that is is not as clean/clear. Go to GameTrailers and watch the HD version of it.the PS3 flows better, sharper, crisper, shadows more realistic and the background isn't blurred as on the 360.

But this is all a moot point since when real games that use the power of the PS3 are made by DEV's then a true comparison can be made. But that is the problem most DEV's only care about how much money is to be made and not the final product....

Lets get some real facts here, what QJ should do is get some top quality video of both systems running the game(without saying which one is from which version) and then let everybody vote for say One week on which version looks better, at the end of that week QJ could then say which version was running which video and look at the results I bet it would be 50 50.....

its the PS3 that has better quality. Yes, their both equal in game play, but look beyond and when they touch their forehead, the PS3s actualy touch as the X360s dont, and the croud in X360 are not as vive as in PS3

PS3 wins!

Other than the different brightness settings, I couldn't tell a single difference in graphical quality between the two. It's very hard to tell fine details apart when two HD video feeds are recorded into such a small video resolution (320x240?). All of the detail that you have is going to get lost. It's like taking a 10 Megapixel camera and comparing it to a 7 Megapixel camera by taking the images from each and scaling them both to a 1 Megapixel image. Of course, your results are going to look virtually identical. A little common sense, please...
