XBL crashes again, no Undertow freebie - Image 1

For all the downtimes that the Xbox Live has had, Microsoft's Marc Whitten wrote a letter informing players will be treated to Chair Entertainment's Undertow , which will be a free downloadable game from the Xbox Live Arcade. It was scheduled to be downloaded by people today, but Xbox Live appears to be having problems once again.

For some folks, that can only mean one thing: no freebie today, it seems.

A system message keeps on popping up, telling people that they can't access Xbox Live. The message says that the system "can't retrieve information from Xbox LIVE. Please try again later." Also, a status code of 8015000a is included in the message.

This is certainly ironic, seeing as Undertow was meant as a way to alleviate all the pains gamers had to endure during the Xbox Live downtime. We'll be keeping you posted with more up-to-date information regarding this matter.

 » NOT TRUE

This article isn't true. As soon as I got home from college (~7:00 PM EST), I went to my xbox 360 to download it. At first I couldn't find it because I went to "Spotlight," and then to the "Arcade" tab. Then I looked in the "Free" section and didn't find it there either. Then I went back to the marketplace tab, and noticed that it was already there, just hard to see.

Anyways, even with my blazing fast internet, the download took about 2 hours!!!

The bottom line is that I was able to download the FULL game Undertow for free yesterday.

2 hours? Holly hell. only took me 5min to download lmao

 » 5 min here also

2hr seems a bit too much for a 50Mb game

I have to agree. I downloaded it last night. It may have taken a little longer then normal (not 2 hours though). But it downloaded just fine.

 » No way!

could it be that by "SOME" people they don't mean everyone?

It clearly says some people, so you're right, it isn't true.

I didn't have any problems. I checked live 12:00 (GMT +2), and downloaded Undertow, took about 2 minutes.

Still im the biggest 360 fan there is. But I have to say undertow sucks, If I had paid 800 points for this I would have been upset.

I think microsoft should have just given us 800 points.

...but Undertow is rather more impressive than the demo led me to believe.

I downloaded this game yesterday and played co-op with a friend, and XBL was fine...

   by arathur - 2008-01-24
 » Sorry.

I guess I didn't read it carefully. Maybe it didn't exactly take 2 hours to download, but at least 1.5. Since probably everyone on Xbox Live was trying to download it at once, something could have happened to their server. Demos (~400 MB) usually take 5 minutes to download on my 360, but this tiny ~48 MB (I don't remember, but it may have been around forty-something) arcade game took 1.5 hours to download.

The game is interesting, but it's not that fun. It's hard aiming shots perfectly in this game.

I wish they would have just given 800 pts. I would have bought the Halo 3 map pack.

 » XBOX Live, ugh...

My friend got a 360 and so far, over the course of about a month, we have been able to successfully download maybe two demos. Every time we try to download something else we get a "Download Stopped" message over and over. Games would stop at something like 25% or 90% and stay there and never finish. I have a PS3 and have been very curious to see XBOX Live in action, seeing as how it is so highly lauded, but have had a rather disappointing look so far. Hopefully things will shape up so I can see what all the fuss is about (I'm really truly curious and am not making a jab at XBOX or LIVE, as I don't care about this nonsensical "next-gen" war).

" what slow internetz

How fast is your internet? What average bandwidth have you noticed?

I have 6Mbps from Comcast, but whenever I test bandwidth at reliable websites, I always get download speeds of like ~17-25 Mbps.
