quite rad, now they just need to release a larger hdd to hold all the hd tv shows ill be downloading, bet it gets announced in the comming weeks.
great idea, but the prices are too expensive. if M$ wants to break people's habits of going to the video store, or downloading online, they will need to decrease the prices by a fair margin. 3$ for a TV show that I already pay almost 100$ a month to watch on digital satellite isn't going to make me start using their service... at the very least M$ should introduce some type of subscription service like zip.ca (or netflix in the states)... pay a certain amount per month, keep a couple movies as long as you want, but then when you download something new the license on the previous rentals expires. that would be a service I would be interested in!
those are pretty cheap cnsidering you are keeping the shows and the hd movie rentals are cheap too, i mean it;'s 4 bucks for 5 days at my local movie gallery for a regular movie.. now not totally sure about microsofts "rental" time frame, but 6buck for a movie once in a while i'll do it... more so if that is going to be cheaper than driving up to movie gallery and all that.. adding in when they get hd dvds someday too
Everybody is *****ing about hard drive space before the service even started. Nobody remebers that the update on 10/31/06 allowed us to view material from external hard disk drives at least let them annouce that it wont be possible to store these items on our external drives
I'm a Big Movie Buff and I'm also very lazy, so this is a brilliant move by microsoft. I haven't seen Superman yet, so I'll be getting that shortly.
Go MS! This idea kicks-ass. $6 for a rental? Cheaper then where I rent.
if you plugged your 360's RCA/component cables into a recording device, the image would most likely be scrambled from copyright protection, right?
If you've ever tried that with a DVD, it just doesn't work. I'm sure they thought of that.
So long as they get that download service right that is.
The HD movies thing is awesome. I don't have an HD movie player and don't plan on getting one, so if they get that service right then that's great. But the regular movies are a complete rip. Why would I pay MS $4 and wait for it to download when I can just drive five minutes out to Safeway and get it for 99 cents?
So I waste more money than I do on Xbox Live rentals than going to the store to rent it. Not only that but I would rather save my MS Points for something a little bit better than that. If you could keep the movies for a small price then it might be worth it.
This idea is as worse (or about the same) as what EA did with charging points for tutorials and stuff.
Where I come from the rentals for a crappy DVD are 9$.
This is great. Here where I live movie rentals are 5€ for a new dvd film. 6$ is just under 5€ and the movie will be in HD. And I can donwload new movies which aren't even in theaters here (hopefully it's possible with my US silver account).
this is a good move by MS - but they need to release a larger HDD or provide support so that u can attach any external HDD to the 360 (i only have 5GB left on my HDD and thats without any HD videos and just a few demos).
this will work for silver members.
btw: does any1 know when this is gonna b out on the marketplace?
Is this service going to be US only, or is it worldwide? More importantly to me, will it be available in the UK?
Even if it is US only, do you think it will be bypassable with the old US registered silver account trick?
this service is ONLY FOR THE US oh well, ill just change my status of where i live. it probably wont work, microsofts an idiot, there are more gamers out side the us than there are IN the us.
So this is the way foreward is it well all i can say is bollox. Why is it the states gets everything and the uk gets nothing they get games, movies everything before the uk.Can we please for once get something the old us and a get at the same time instead of preference over them as the guy above says theres probably more gamers outside the us than in it so come on Microsoft and MR BILL GATES yeah im talking to you oh great leader(yeah right i know hes not acting god anymore). So please listen to your legions of fans before they do jump ship and head over to the sony camp in the uk next march............thank you ppl for letting me get that of my chest.
Well, it's like how sony used to serve Japan 1st all the time, untill they got scared this gen.
Same thing here, not to mention that the vast majority, if not all of, microsofts big servers are in the U.S. Takes awhile to setup the infrastructure to allow millions of people to download 5 gig movies...
why are you guys complaning about the price? apprently you guys dont realise the difference between a dvd(480i/p) and the HD movies on live being 720p your basically paying for better quality then u can get on a dvd at blockbuster, its well worth it in my opinion.
This is such a sweet idea by microsoft!!! HD movies for 6 dollars when you can't even rent them at blockbuster yet.....can't beat that. Also when blockbuster gets hddvds anyway, they will probably more than that to rent. This is awesome.....too bad my college internet blocks xbox live.....ill just have to download some at home :)
cool idea but im not paying 4 tv shows that i can download for free
nooo wayy
Youre welcome for finding this information for you...
Jeez, no credit?
They may of thought about not letting you record the signal buy why cant I just copy these files right off the hardrive and then use the WMV9 liscenes crack and put these movies onto my pc.
This was on IGN WAAAAY b4 qj, and is probably where you found it, so ya, let's go thank IGN or whoever....
Anyways....I like the idea, I don't have an HDTV, but I also don't have cable. So this is sweet for getting all the tv shows that I miss....I can download them as well, but the quality is usually lacking. I just hope they are formated properly, not like some of the UFC trailers and the battlestar galatica special that was released...little boxes in the middle of my widescreen TV...
