It's fair to say
that Xbox Live is clearly head and shoulders above anything anyone else
has tried to do. We don't have competition. Sony has done some things
online, but nothing that can be called a service. We have a big
advantage and we're going to keep pressing that advantage. We have a very
strong, very powerful computer network that provides the backbone for
our service. We have game demos that can be downloaded, video downloads
and game downloads. It's a broad cross section of consumer services. |

Xbox Live certainly offers more features/options than PSN.
It probably comes down to semantics and depends what you consider a "service." I have both, and I've never actually had a problem with the PSN or XBL...no lag on either. I've always managed to find games to play with others on both. If a service is something that allows me to game with others on the internet, I'd argue they're both services.
In the end, XBL offers me more in the way of voice messaging and a better laid out storefront.
To say they aren't competing is difficult to say since one is pay and one is free.

Although with my particular geographical location and cable provider, the PS3 downloads are often slow in comparison, I've never seen lag problems when GAMING ONLINE. ---Which leads to my subject title: with XBL, what are you really paying for? --Is it the quality of online gaming, or is it for the network servers to support the for-pay video downloads (which you don't have to have a Gold membership to download, anyway)? In other words, I think the $50/yr XBL subsidy is going for them to create the infrastructure to facilitate for-pay movie and TV downloads ---not to create the game-server infrastructure that HAS to be robust, anyway. I mean, it's not like you could really skimp on your game-server farms anyway and still have anyone wanting to play. I don't see either Sony or Microsoft lacking in that department. So, it is my belief that the XBL fee is a ruse to help them pay to get people to pay (for downloads). ...We'll have to see what Sony does with Home, but I would think that their customer base will become large and varied enough to continue to support free service.

I'm sure that if Sony started charging all of us to play across the net then they could centralize and build servers to support all traffic, but they don't. For good and bad.
Downloading stuff off the PSN takes more time than we'd like, but it's a FREE service. That and it's getting a lot better since its launch. Firmware downloads only take me about 2 minutes on launch date now. I know most of us remember when it would take two hours.
To say that LIVE is "better" is an understatement. PSN might not move as fast as LIVE yet, and I stress YET. But I see it as much more advantageous than LIVE.
To start bashing on the PSN when it's only been around for a year is a little juvenile. Give it another 4 years and let's see if it passes where LIVE is at it's 5 year mark.

You have it backwards. PSN uses dedicated servers for games. XBL uses peer to peer (hosted by users systems).

actually lives downloads are alot faster. i will download something on live at 1 gb in a couple of minute while on psn the same size file is 15-20 min. Still not bad and i believe psn is going to become alot better when home comes out and i am dying for it.

Besides, your home connection doesn't account for much if the server you're trying to get to is limiting the bandwidth you can use.

I have no games to play online on PSN, but when I tried out the marketplace, it was seriously lacking in content compared to XBOX live. Maybe when a decent exclusive multiplayer game comes out (that isn't ONLY multiplayer) I'll give it a try.

I actually play games more for online, cause I like competition, so I could care less if the multiplayer is good enough (like Warhawk and Socom thats coming out.)
The lack of content I think mainly has to do with how long the Xbox had its live service. They added all of the Xbox stuff with a years worth of content on the 360. So guess you gotta give it time.

But like with that latest bashing of Assassins Creed looking better on the 360 vs PS3 is completely wrong!!! That screen for the PS3 is tampered with and they know it. As for this article the only reason the 360 is up right now is yeah they do have more titles which isnt nothing to get all snappy about and also more people have gotten use to M$ XBLive is because of the year delay. Also its people whom always been bias to M$ over Sony will always knock what Sony has done. I know they arent perfect but the good strides they have been making are great to me.

Your actually right. Theres an option on the PS3 that most dumbasses with HDTV's never actually turn on.
You go to Display settings, then To RBG color. If you look its set to limited (YOUR SUPPOSED TO SET IT TO FULL IF YOU HAVE A HDTV.) Once you set it to full you'll notice everything gets darker and has more color.

What M$ need to do is relinquish their pricy strong hold on XBL and give some love back to their customers before making dumb comments like that. Number 1: Right a readable comment that we can read. Your side made idiot fanboy comments that the Xbox 360 will dominate over PS3.
Number 2: Microsoft didn't come with a concept of service, it was when the first man dropped his lunch on his clothes and wife said "If you want I can clean that up for you."
Number 3: Online connectivity depends on you ISP provider. It takes only 5-10 minutes to download 2 gigs.
Number 4: Here is a list of games that will be on the PS3 but not on the Xbox 360.

Take a look at their OSs, they release them to the public with what they consider to be "gold" or finished. Then for the next 6 months to a year, the users and developers have to battle it out with all the bugs MS didn't fix. And don't even get me started with Windows ME.
MS puts out at least 3 patches per week for Vista alone! I use MS products, but that doesn't mean I think it's the best out there. It simple suits my needs for what I do, programming.
Both Sony and MS have their share of issues, but at least none of my Sony products have died on me mid-use.
Oh yeah, take a look at Japan-the Technology Giant-and ask them who'd they buy from first.

Developers will have voice/text chat, game invites, skill ranking, leaderboards and online playing in there game with very little code. And the fact that these features are built into the OS means that more system resources are available for the actual game. On the PS3 developers are building those features for their own game using up PS3 resources (CPU and RAM). Sony has developers replicating code across all their games and for this reason they will never link together from game to game as well as Xbox Live's standard features.
It's 14 cents a day for a premium service. 90% of the features can be accessed for free anyway.

C M$ cares about its customers, we don't have to pay for ish that we don't want or give a ***** about! , easy-swap HD's(if u haven't noticed our HD's r located on the top of the console and all we have to do is push a button and it pops right off, so u dont' win there) and a nice black shiny finish(Well congrats u got ur $600 pile in black, the only reason they made it black was to distract from how bulky and ugly the console is)
