The poet and philosopher Schiller in Die Weltweisen said "Hunger and Love are what moves the world." In Battlefield 2142 the whole world goes downward spiral as an impending new Ice age threatens mankind's existence. Ice covers most of the ground and only a small fraction of tillable soil is available for the billions of people to share. You're only chance of seeing the light of day is to side between two military superpowers - the European Union or the newly formed Pan Asian Coalition. You'll have access to a killer arsenal of hi-tech weaponry that include assault rifles, cloaking devices and sentry guns just to name a few. Wage war using herculean Walkers on land and futuristic aircraft to cut through clouds. What lies ahead for those who want to take on the territorial challenge that Battlefield 2142 poses? Mayhem. We've seen the power of in-game ads before. And now, Electronic
Arts Inc. is going the extra mile. They have just agreed with leading in-game advertisers IGA
Worldwide Inc. to give marketing departments new options regarding dynamic ad placements within the games of the EA franchise. Was that a mouthful? Thought so. Basically, what this entails for EA is that they will have a portfolio of their games incorporated into IGA’s network of advertisers. Yes, yes, some of you might be groaning in agony now. We don't want our video games to turn into the next-gen commercials, right? But when we hear EA and IGA say "dynamic ad placements", we're not talking about shameless plugs here. We're talking relevant and realistic brand presence integrated into the context of the game. Emphasis of course would be on "relevant" and "context". And what's the first game that will get the glory of ad placements? None other than Battlefield 2142 for the 360! Now, let's visualize... Should we expect NPC soldiers in the game to suddenly break out in a musical jingle advertising Mentos? Nope. Should we expect to see big, robot, war machines wearing branded "tank tops" (pun shamelessly intended) from Zara? Nope. So what kind of ad placing could we expect? Well, we don't know exactly how "incognito" the ads will be placed, but you get the point from our examples above. No loud ads. |

Battlefield 2142 is surely on its way to generate an appetite for war among players' gaming palate, as the game is expected to be released between October and November 2006. Set in the icy year of 2142, when the world is thrown in a state of panic, it is an epic battle for survival as players will choose to fight for one of two military superpowers. The game is being developed for the Xbox 360 console. The game created such a big buzz in February 2006, when an interview with Dan Blackstone (senior producer of the project) said, "We’re about to announce something very big, so stay tuned. One other interviewer asked this and I gave him a hint, so it’s only fair that I do the same for you: 3213/3X2. Or said another way: S.R. 4588164". The statement started a clamour about the launch of Battlefield 2412 game and since then, it spread like a wildfire, as the S.R. (Square Root) of 4588164 is 2142 (3213? equals 2142 as well), creating excitement among players. We have been telling you guys about Battlefield 2142 and now we are excited to deliver you again a new batch of irresistible screenshots from the PC version of the game (just so you'll see more of what's coming to your MS consoles):

War is hell. Unless the conflict is on Battlefield 2142 for
the Xbox 360. Wouldn't it be great if all the world's wars were fought
only on video games? And all casualties are nothing more than pixelized
people? If John Lennon were alive he'd probably write a song about it.
Are we right, Jack?
The FPS game is set in the year 2142 when the Earth's thermostat is set at "Ice Age." The world is in so much disarray even animal rights activists are wearing more fur than Cruella Deville. With the planet's surface encrusted in ice, food is in short supply even environmentalists are snacking on endangered whales. In Battlefield 2142, players fight for survival either with the European Union or the Pan Asian Coalition. And now to the stuff of Mr.Thompson's nightmare: devastating arsenal of hi-tech assault rifles, sentry guns, vehicles of war and futuristic aircrafts at players' disposal in order to obliterate their enemies. No release date yet for this action chiller but we did get you twelve new screenshots: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Boy, I sure wish there was just one more of these screens, then I could make a Five for Fighting joke, but alas, 'tis not to be. Here are the first official screens of EA's Battlefield 2142, the follow up to the yet to be released (on Xbox 360 at least) Battlefield 2: Modern Combat. File them under "meh", where's the punch, the pizzazz, the wham bam thank you mam!? Right now everything looks far too stale and grey, lacking in life and any sense of urgency (this is a war). Needs more cowbell. It probably bears mentioning that these shots are from the PC version of the game.

Last month Dan Blackstone, senior producer on Battlefield 2: Modern Combat hinted at the direction the next installment in EA's massively popular first person shooter franchise (no not that one) would be heading. The franchise would boldly go where no FPS has gone before (sarcasm drips from these words), the far flung future! This mysterious trailer appeared online a few days ago and is apparently a
teaser trailer for the next Battlefield game, titled Battlefield 2142. Accompanying the teaser trailer is this dodgy looking clip that is labeled "leaked gameplay footage".
