Borderlands - Image 1Borderlands is one of the better looking games I've seen all year thanks to the new art style. Still, the gameplay is much more important in an open-world game like this. The best way to show it off would probably be by way of a demo, but there's a chance that we won't be seeing a Borderlands demo anytime soon. DLC, on the other hand, has a better chance of appearing.

Borderlands - Image 1Here's a new trailer for Gearbox Software and 2K Games' Borderlands (PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, PC) showing off the game's new concept art-ish style. It seems to be mostly made of cutscenes but there's a second's worth of gameplay footage that doesn't seem to be all that different from the pre-rendered parts. Check it out after the jump.

Borderlands - Image 1Borderlands (PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, PC) kinda dropped out of the radar after we all heard about the "OMG 650,000 guns in-game!" thing from Gearbox president Randy Pitchford. Those waiting for the game can rest assured, though, as it is apparently still a go for release this year.

Borderlands - Image 1I admit, I did a bit of a double take myself when I heard that Borderlands (PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, PC) has hundreds of thousands of weapons. Of course, most of these weapons will likely be variations that only have a tiny bit of difference from one another, but still, that's a heck of a lot of guns. What's even more impressive is that according to Gearbox president Randy Pitchford, they've actually increased the number to well past the half-million mark.

Randy Pitchford, President and CEO of Gearbox Software - Image 1Kotaku's Brian Ashcraft recently got a hold of Randy Pitchford, Gearbox Software's head honcho, as he talked about the various games the company was planning to release across the various platforms. Pitchford looked back on the company's Brothers in Arms series, as well as their upcoming shooter Borderlands. Also, he talked about their unprecedented adaptation of the Wii port to Dreamcast's rhythm game Samba de Amigo.

Check out what else Randy Pitchford had to say after the jump!

Borderlands: a dangerous place to live - Image 1It's an FPS that dares to be different, and from the looks of this trailer for Borderlands (PS3, Xbox 360, PC) it certainly brings to mind one honest impression: to survive in a hostile alien environment, you'll need guns. Lots of guns.

At least, that's what one of the characters in this minute-long trailer for Borderlands has to say about living on the planet Pandora. Much like Pandora's Box, all manner of ghastly monstrosity happens to live upon the world. Find the trailer after the jump!

Gearbox Software's Borderlands dares to be different - Image 1Ambitious as it is, the role-playing, sci-fi first-person shooter Borderlands from Gearbox Software and 2K Games is trying to be anything but another rehashed FPS. Mad Max, Firefly, Wastelands, Diablo, and Fallout - however you blend them produces Gearbox' Borderlands (Microsoft Windows PC over DVD, Microsoft Xbox 360, Sony PlayStation 3). Gearbox Software positioned themselves at a competitive spot in the technical limelight and decided to evolve the genre equally through other aspects instead.

Like Ubisoft Montreal's Far Cry 2, 2K Games' Borderlands will have players against Pandora's wildlife - Pandora being the world Borderlands is set in - so not all enemies will be touting guns from time to time. Also vehicle combat will be embodied by Salt Racers (the game's dune racers) which inhabit the race and gun action segments throughout the story.

And speaking of story, the technology by film designer/director Ron Cobb (Total Recall, The Abyss, Back to the Future, and The Sixth Day) could help the game propel its story and mood forward all on its own. There's talk that the game pulls great elements from sci-fi hits Mad Max and Firefly, which is definitely saying a lot.
