The three DLC packs that the game released digitally for both the PS3 and Xbox 360 consoles "only" managed to push 6.5 million units between the months of March and Mid-August 2009. How's that for a big performer?

With the first two map packs scoring over four million downloads, Treyarch is making sure that the third map pack for Call of Duty: World at War (PS3, Xbox 360, PC, Wii) will live up to the standard set by its two predecessors. The third map pack for Call of Duty: World at War (PS3, Xbox 360, PC, Wii) has big shoes to fill seeing as its two predecessors made quite a killing. Since their release, map packs 1 and 2 have scored more than four million downloads on Xbox Live and PSN combined.

With the game breaking the 11 million mark last month and the unprecedented success of the 2 previous Map Packs, Activision and Treyarch have revealed today the first details of the upcoming Map Pack 3 for Call of Duty: World at War (PS3, Xbox 360, PC, Wii).

Treyarch is also getting in on 4th of July celebrations in the US with a double XP weekend event for the PS3, Xbox 360, PC, and Wii versions of Call of Duty: World at War. Following Treyarch's earlier announcement of Call of Duty: World At War (PS3, Xbox 360, PC, Wii, DS) breaking the 11 million units sold mark, we now hear that the game's second map pack has already been downloaded more than a million times. And in only four days, no less.

Despite criticisms that Call of Duty: World at War (PS3, Xbox 360, PC, Wii, DS) isn't as good as its predecessor Modern Warfare (PS3, Xbox 360, PC), Treyarch should still be happy with this outcome - the fifth installment to the Call of Duty franchise has sold over 11 million units since its launch back in November 2008.

Treyarch has released the second map pack for Call of Duty: World at War (PS3, Xbox 360, PC, Wii, DS) earlier, just in time for the Double XP Weekend that ends 10AM PST on Tuesday. As an additional incentive to go and get the US$ 9.99 download, the devs themselves will be gearing for battle and you can pit your skills against the masterminds that brought you the new map pack.
