Explosions, destruction, mayhem! Any shooters won't go anywhere without these ingredients, and LucasArts clearly knows that. With the help of Day 1 Studios, Fracture will be hitting the PS3 and Xbox 360 with a promise of delivering everything that an outstanding action-packed game needs.
Here's the twist - explosions and destruction mean a lot different in Fracture. Grenades don't simply frag people, they make holes in the ground. Why destroy enemy structures with brute firepower when you can just flip them over with a bang? Terrain deformation is where next-gen is at, or so LucasArts believes. Aiming to revolutionize how people look at action games, Fracture is set to be a complete package of adventure, shooter, and strategy genres. Here is Mike Webster, LucasArts product marketing manager, telling us all that plus more. |

The new PS3, 360 shooter game from Day 1 Studios Fracture sounds ambitious enough to start a whole new genre of games. Fracture will be utilizing the new method of Terrain Deforming, which almost didn't make it into the original design because of some apprehensions to the concept.
The story of Fracture will be told through the eyes of soldier Mason Briggs. He is a soldier of the United States 150 years from now. Only in this universe, America is divided in two, the East and the West, hence "Fracture." One side is dedicated to using technology for the improvement of mankind, and the other side aims to advance genetic engineering. Now this isn't your average shooter game, this is going to be more a mix of adventure, shooter, and strategy thanks to the new terrain deformation system. In an interview with GameInformer, Denny Thorley and Jon Kimmich of Day 1 Studios reveal how players will be using high powered weapons that, if used in real life, would really mess up the landscape - and that's what terrain deformation is all about in this game: to mess up the landscape, either to your tactical advantage or just for the heck of seeing a hole where a hill once was. The developers are aiming to make other games feel more static by comparison. Players will get to have a whole arsenal of weapons to destroy everything in their path with, including a gun that shoots something underground and hurls things it sucks down into it. It was also revealed that the game will be using the SIXAXIS controls. The "how" of it wasn't said though. Also, there will be a single and multiplayer demo this coming E3. For the full transcript of the interview, you can terrain-deform your way towards the Read link below! |

Fracture is LucasArts' latest game in development, offering a different approach to first-person shooters with the previously announced "Terrain Deformation" technology. Only coming to next-generation consoles, the game seems to be slated only for the core of gamers who can frag on gamepad, and David Perkinson, the game's producer, tells us why. In an interview with PlayStation Universe, Perkinson revealed that the game was to take full advantage of next-gen technology already offered on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, specifically stating that Fracture would "achieve a high frame-rate, while maintaining the level of gameplay desired." He added, "We want to make sure the game looks great, and is fun to play." Apparently, aside from being able to turn the tide of war and force enemies to rethink strategies with the touch of a Tectonic Grenade, players on the Pacifican side will be able to utilize their affinity to genetic enhancements and "upgrade" their abilities as the game progresses. If you'd rather fight for the East coast Atlantican Army, players will also be able to exhibit these "augmentations" via cybernetic enhancement technology. Perkinson also pointed out that the game would sport co-op multiplay with full online capabilities. LucasArts, known for their ability to create deep storylines in games, will still be keeping up that facade as Perkinson mentioned complete focus on storytelling and character complexities. "Players will be fighting a war against friends, and find that right and wrong are not always clearly defined," he added. |

Fracture is an action-oriented game from the folks at Day 1 Studios. Day 1 is known for Microsoft's Mech Assault franchise, so if you're a fan of that video game, you should know what to expect.
What's interesting about Fracture is that its developers are emphasizing the use of terrain deformation, and they're claiming that environment deformation in this game will actually have an impact on gameplay. We'd like to go on and on, and try to expound on that for you folks, but we'd rather the people involved do the explaining themselves. Click on play below: |
