For those of us currently enjoying sweet tactical FPS action with Ubisoft's Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter 2 (Xbox 360, PS3, PC, PSP), here's some very good news, particularly for those playing the game on their Microsoft Xbox 360s: there's a huge expansion for the game in the pipeline, and it's rolling out as a downloadable on Xbox LIVE next month. Sweet! So what sort of tactical-shooter goodness does this blessing from the developer team yield? Why, a ton of spanking new content, that's what! Not only do we get five new campaign missions that continue the game's storyline, but also nine additional multiplayer maps - seven remakes of classic Ghost Recon maps from ages long past, and two originals. The remakes are as follows: Caves, Railroad Bridge, Battlefield, Plantation, Swamp Airfield, Prison, and Castle, and the original ones being Business Park and Rooftop. There's also the sweet bonus of 125 gamerpoints' worth of new achievements to top things off, for the elite who make it a point to squeeze out every bit of replay value from our games. Definitely a great package indeed. Of course, there's no word yet on just how much this expansion pack will cost, so here's hoping for something affordable. After all, with a lot of new releases coming out for the holiday season, it helps that a downloadable pack like this is not only content-rich, but also affordable. Updates about Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter 2 as we get them! |

Format wars, console wars. Nothing matches the primal war between male and female. XboxGameZone has announced a Battle of the Sexes where guys and girls (yes, girl gamers do exist!) battle it out for eight consecutive days across games from both the original Xbox and the Xbox 360. The event marks the second Battle of the Sexes; the first was held last 2005. This time the event is being held to mark XboxGameZone's birthday. The first Battle of the Sexes was a four day long event with 25 matches spread across 9 Xbox Live titles. Although the guys won last year, it was only by a small margin, so don't underestimate the girls just because they're...well, girls. The battle will rage from September 7 to September 14. Players will be battling it out in games such as Bomberman Live and Ubisoft's Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2. Prizes are awarded to the winners and entrance is free. Register on the read link below! |

Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2 is about to be released for the PS3 on August 21, and we can't help but be excited to find out how the game will look like on Sony's shiny black console. To help appease Ghost Recon fans' curiosity, Ubisoft Paris' Lead AI Engineer Olivier Didelot talked with Kotaku about the challenges that were presented in developing a game for both Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 simultaneously. Didelot clarified that GRAW 2 for the PS3 is not a port of the Xbox 360 version, because the game for both platforms were developed side-by-side with Ubisoft Paris and Red Storm studios working on the Xbox 360 version, and Ubisoft Paris and Shanghai developing the game on the PS3. Since PS3 hardware is different and required them to come up with ways to tackle game development, GRAW 2 for the PS3 is actually an original development. Furthermore, the differences between the Xbox 360 and PS3 prompted Ubisoft in making sure that the GRAW engine will enable cross platforming. This then allowed Ubisoft to develop the basic features of the game and optimized it according to the demands of the specific version they're dealing with. Didelot did not expound on each consoles' difference, but he explained: For an engineer, the two platforms are critically different, with different strengths and weaknesses. Moreover, we feel that there's a real difference in the philosophy behind it. The very primary differences, in the way the processors are designed & combined or the way the memory is handled make them very different challenges for engineers. Despite the differences however, the AI code is exactly the same for both consoles. Didelot said that the differences lie in how the AI code is handled by the hardware. If there were any discrepancies between the two versions, he assured that it will be invisible to the players. GRAW 2 for both systems will have teammate's AI use voice feedback to help players out in locating enemies, while enemy AI will present considerable challenges by making full use of the terrain in attacking. That certainly was a handful of useful information, straight from Ubisoft's Lead AI Engineer himself. For PS3 fans waiting for the game, why not check out the PS3 demo? Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2's PS3 release is just around the corner, but it won't hurt to experience the game in advance. |

Lucky ghost-wannabes who got a taste of Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter 2 know that the game is beyond just the pretty physics or nostalgia factor. For the doubtful, a couple of guys, Grin CEO Bo Andersson and Lead Mission Designer/Lead Artist Rickard Johansson, from GRAW 2's dev team sat down to answer a few questions from the fans.
As usual, squad tactics will be the major focus of the game. Even so, the PC version aims to deliver an authentic FPS experience. CrossCom 2.0 is leagues better than the previous version. You can now issue orders much smoother, and command your support team around with a few button touches. Tactical map will offer more details to open up a plethora of new strategic choices. If you haven't tried demo yet, now is a good time. Meanwhile, watch the video for yourself to get more info. |

Our gaming lads over at the UK who want some GRAW action are in luck: website Britxbox will be holding the 2007 Community Day in association with Warfighters. This isn't your usual Xbox get together, participants will be running around in full gear as they bring the famous Tom Clancy game to life. For those not in the know, Warfighters is a place where you can gear up with GRAW equipment and play as an operative. Teams battle it out to complete missions and scenarios in a very realistic combat setting. The fragging day will cost £ 49.99 (around US$ 98). That much would equip you with these:
To avoid spending the rest of the game doing nothing when you "die" early, the medic system called Medi-Mag is there to extend your life. When you get shot, you have 10 minutes before bleeding to death. Just load up the Medi-Mag to replace ammo, and you'll get a 50% HP boost per charge. Each Medi-Mag contains four charges. The big day happens on August 31st at at Willoughby near Rugby in Warwickshire. Event will be from 9:30am to 4:30pm, so make sure you have the energy. From Warfighters' Dave Thatcher, “Prepare for a challenging day of GRAW like missions and team objectives that will test your online gaming skills in the real world to the max!” |

More maps have dropped on the Xbox Live Marketplace today. This time it's the Throwback pack for Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter 2. The Throwback map pack contains seven maps pulled from Ghost Recon 2, Ghost Recon 2: Summit Strike and the original Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter. These maps have been completely redone, remastered and HD-fied for use in GRAW 2. People who have played them before will definitely recognize the layout, but the graphics are reportedly more kickass than ever before. The Throwback map pack is available for 800 Microsoft Points. Here's a list of the maps:
