FredericksburgThere are 10 reasons why History Channel: Civil War is just as great as Gears of War.
  1. It's got a November launch, just like Gears of War.
  2. It's about war. And you carry warfare-oriented gear.
  3. Well-rendered graphics and realistic simulation of warfare (bullets whizzing, smoke billowing, sabers flashing).
  4. It's fun. It's historical. We're running out of ideas here...
OK. We admit it: this is probably not going to be the biggest blockbuster ever. Alteridos asked in a recent article (with screenshots), "I'm the only one excited about this?" No, there are a bunch of other people interested in this game. Just don't expect them to show up in droves. Hehe.

RoDmann691 said, "The South will rise again!" It sure can. The game from Activision Publishing Inc. lets you play Confederate or Union soldier in the bloody fields of Gettysburg, Bull Run, Antietam, and we forget the rest. It's available for Xbox 360 and PC. It's called "History Channel" because they used History Channel info: topographical maps and photographs, research on combat methods and weaponry, etc.
  • play as a Confederate or Union soldier battling through 12 of the most famous battles in U.S. history
  • each mission has a documentary video describing the historic moments in a battle, movements of armies, local fights, and battle statistics - yeah, unleash the general within
  • diverse landscapes of train yards, saw mills, and military forts
  • bayonets, sabers, the butt of a gun, fists, rifles, multiple types of grenades, exploding artillery, revolvers, muskets...
  • set charges, place explosives, sabotage enemy lines, destroy buildings...
History doesn't look so boring.

Do find yourself always snoozing through History class? Feel like the Civil War has become way too discussed where everything's been said and everything you need to know can be found in history books every-freakin'-where?

Well, if you're not into history (like this writer here who always scored C's and D's in her history classes), and no matter what you do you just can't get yourself interested in historic battles and whatnot...well, your academic life's about to get just a little bit easier, buddy -- that's IF you're into video games.

With History Channel: Civil War, you're gonna learn about those otherwise boringly discussed historic battles! How? The game brings you kickass action set in historic places where great battles took place. Thus, you'll merely be engaging in old school action with classic rifles, guns, bayonets, etc. but at the same time, you're learning history.

Of course this is with the assumption that you're into video gaming at least 'cuz if not, then what the heck are you doing here dude?! Errr...I mean, if you're not into video gaming, then there might be no other fun way for you to learn about the historic battles of Petersburg, Fredericksburg, and whatever-burg you can think of. Anyhoo, enough with the talking, we'll get on to giving you what you came here for in the first place...screens! More info on the game can be found here, meanwhile, enjoy the screens!

Now here's a game that'll let you use the "This is for my history homework!" excuse on your parents, Cauldron's History Channel: Civil War. Relive the carnage and chaos of the Civil War in this first-person action game where you get to play as a Confederate or Union soldier in America’s historic battles including Gettysburg, Bull Run and Antietam.

In addition to being able to relive historic battles in locations such as Little Round Top and Lookout Mountain, the game also features hand-to-hand fighting where you can use bayonets, sabers, the butt of your gun, and even your fists when in close contact with the enemy. Complete mission objectives by placing explosives, sabotaging enemy telegraph lines, and should you need the help of your comrades, you can also employ the line fighting strategy.

The game's cinematic war experience makes your battles come to life with exploding artillery, whistling bullets, and more. The wide variety in weaponry also allows you to express your creativity in battle strategies and fighting, as you can choose between different types of grenades, guns, revolvers, bayonets, muskets, sabers, etc. Battlefield environments are also based on topographical maps and images from the actual battlegrounds of the Civil War. And because of the game's historical accuracy, there's no way your mom or dad won't believe you when you say that you're working on a history paper on the Civil War.

Basically, History Channel: Civil War seems to be the game that lives up to the "History Made Fun" slogan, with its historical accuracy and information being merged into gameplay. So whether you want to join the army or you're really just into wars and battlefield strategies, you might want to pick up this game when it hits the shelves on November 14. Rated T by the ESRB, the Cauldron-developed game will also come out on PS2, with the Xbox360 version selling for $49.99. Below are more x360 screenshots for you to get a glimpse of the upcoming game.
