The Bourne Conspiracy - Image 1There's another JB in the secret agent house of cool, and he's certainly giving James Bond a run for his money. Sure, so Jason Bourne may not be as stylish and as suave as his cool and collected British counterpart, but he sure as hell can beat up a horde of ninjas with a rolled-up magazine.

If you haven't met him yet via the book or the movie (sigh), then you better not miss this last chance with High Moon Studios' Robert Ludlum's The Bourne Conspiracy for the PS3 and Xbox 360.

Chris Ulm recently sat down in an interview to reveal these sort of things and more - that Bourne wasn't your typical martini-sipping, Aston Martin-driving super secret spy agent. (Come, Morocco!) Far from it, Bourne is gruff, rugged, and has probably forgotten all his pick-up lines with a nasty bout of amnesia. But he's still deadly as all hell, even in his Gap clothes.

So how is Videogame Bourne different from Movie Bourne, besides not bearing the likeness of Matt Damon? "In the movie they call Bourne a 'malfunctioning US$ 30 million weapon'. Here, he's a functioning US$ 30 million weapon," says the chief development officer of Robert Ludlum's The Bourne Conspiracy, Chris Ulm.

He also gave a few hints as to how gameplay would be like - namely the fact that the game, while still having gunplay as an integral part of gameplay, will not have Bourne lugging a veritable arsenal around. No, it'll be much more subtle and focused on hand-to-hand combat. "Bourne is not Gucci. He doesn’t have a ton of gear – he expects to improvise."

And improvise Bourne does, utilizing everything from picture frames to the infamous rolled-up magazine to knock enemies out cold. And yes, he'll also be doing some serious close-up fighting with his bare hands - aided by a simple gameplay called the Adrenalin Meter.

The Adrenalin Meter, simply put, is a bar that keeps track on just how high-strung Bourne is. The higher the Adrenalin Meter, the harder Bourne hits. Players will be able to increase Bourne's adrenalin meter by taking part in the game's shooting and fist-fighting sequences - rewarding them for taking risks and confronting the enemy head-on.

After all is said and done, attacking someone with a full Adrenalin meter will result in a button-pressing sequence. If the player does well in said button presses, a cutscene of Bourne pretty much burying someone into a wall - complete with awesome bone-crunching effects and camera angles - will play out. Shooting someone with a full adrenalin meter will have similar results, except more dead bodies.

Sounds like we're in for a very smashing time with Bourne indeed. Check back here for more details about Bourne's latest next-gen adventure.

This post covers a new batch of screenshots released by the developersand they're equally impressive. The shooting, running and hiding which seem to characterize The Bourne Conspiracy's gameplay are also represented in these images. The detail is amazing even in full size.

We'll have to wait for Jason Bourne to visit our next-gen consoles until the summer of 2008, but patience should pay off. We'll be keeping a close watch on this thriller and you'll be the first to hear when we get hold of more news.

When the High Moon team, developers of the upcoming game Robert Ludlum's The Bourne Conspiracy, said that their project won't be a typical movie game, they meant it. The mediocrity usually associated with movie-tied games isn't showing in this video as the graphics and action look off the hook. Watch this:

With a third-person view reminiscent of Resident Evil 4, players will assume the role of Jason Bourne in a cat-and-mouse style espionage thriller. Audio seems pretty good too, as the cacophony of speaker-shuddering explosions and radio transmissions set the right atmosphere for the mood that the game wants to project.

This prospect isn't due out until the summer of next year, but from what we're seeing now, it could turn out to be pretty darn good. A select few have proven that movie games don't have to be bad, and we certainly hope The Bourne Conspiracy joins that list. This one's headed for the Sony PlayStation 3 and the Microsoft Xbox 360.

For a game so faithfully tied to the motion pictures, Robert Ludlum's The Bourne Conspiracy (Xbox 360, PlayStation 3) was designed to be anything but a movie game. San Diego-based High Moon Studios spoke to The Hollywood Reporter recently, and it was discovered that while the game picked up the Jason Bourne from the beginnings of "The Bourne Identity," it was designed to stand on its own two legs, separately from the movies.

The Bourne Conspiracy is no 'movie game' - Image 1

"We started off almost making a straight 'Bourne Identity' adaptation," said chief creative officer Emmanuel Valdez. In the eyes of third-party onlookers, it would have been a wrong decision: the first movie premiered in 2001 -  the same year Robert Ludlum passed away - which was quickly followed with the second installment premiering just a year before the game development started.

"We knew we didn't have enough time to build a quality 'Bourne Ultimatum' game and come out with it at the same time as the movie. So we decided to do things differently, something new," Valdez stressed, and so it became that The Bourne Conspiracy would have to make do on its own. And yet it had to be original, but intimately close to what fans of the movie - the potential customers of the game - recognize from the big screen.

Striking a balance between the two, coupled with unavoidably difficult negotiations between the intellectual property owners and the creative force, was often the undoing of movie-based games. But Ludlum Estate, holders of the Bourne IP, made a choice that sealed the game's blockbuster potential.

They chose to hire a creative consultant to advise them during the game's development, and they selected independent game producer Matt Wolf, an industry veteran from Electronic Arts and SEGA Entertainment. "Head-butts" involved in the creative process were easily smoothed out, and it turned the movie hero into a hero perfectly sculpted for the video game scene.

Robert Ludlum's The Bourne Conspiracy will touch Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 gamers by mid-2008 and will be released under the newly revived Sierra label of Vivendi.

In the video you'll see below, the devs talk about how Bourne's past will be integrated into the game set in Bourne's present. Aside from other details that you always wanted to know, High Moon Studios also takes us behind the scenes to show how they do things.

It's always fun to know how your games are made, so find Robert Ludlum's The Bourne Conspiracy behind the scenes after the jump!
