Tetris Evolution - Image 1As reported in a previous article, THQ and The Tetris Company have settled their differences to bring Tetris: The Grand Master Ace aka Tetris Evolution to the 360.

That was specifically for the North American release. Eurogamer was able to corner a THQ UK spokesperson who informed them that there's nothing to announce regarding the title getting to European shores. According to the spokesperson, "It's not that I can't talk about it; we haven't got anything to announce."

Tetris: The Grand Master Ace Tetris Evolution will feature single player and multiplayer modes of up to four players, customization and online play, plus an addition of new content and gameplay modes. Leaderboards and Achievements will be included also. We'll watch out for further announcements regarding this, so stay glued.

CORRECTION: The original title of this article was "No Tetris for Europe?" As you can see by the text above, the article asserted that two different Tetris games were one and the same.

However, Tetris: The Grand Master Ace or Tetris: The Grand Master Ace 4 (sometimes called "T4" for short), is not the same game as Tetris Evolution.
  • Tetris: The Grand Master Ace
    • Developed by Arika (a Japanese company)
    • Published by AQ Interactive (a Japanese company)
    • Released in Japan on December 10, 2005
    • European version will be released on December 31, 2007
    • There seems to be no US / North American version
  • Tetris Evolution
    • Developed by California-based Mass Media Inc.
    • Published by THQ
    • It seems the game will be released only in the US in 2007

TetrisTHQ, a regular licensor of the Tetris game, was sued breach of contract by the Tetris rights holder, The Tetris Company. However, examination of THQ's recent financial results show that the legal dispute on the use of the Tetris license has already been settled.

This is good news for all the Tetris lovers who want to see the title go to the Xbox 360. The settlement means that THQ will now be publishing the Western version of Tetris: The Grand Master Ace for Microsoft's next-gen console, the Japan version of which was published by AQ Interactive.

THQ's original licensing agreement with The Tetris Company is supposed to run until 2007, although it is not clear whether this is still the case or if the new agreement between two companies will only be for the Xbox 360 version of Tetris.

What is certain, though, is that there will be no Tetris DS from THQ in the near future. Well, DS owners do have the Nintendo-published Tetris DS to play with. For all you Xbox 360 owners, it might not be long until you get to play the classic game on your consoles.

Tetris might be one of the few games that rules all of the gaming consoles, even Xbox 360.

We have reported Tetris for Xbox 360 back in October without any idea of the actual game. One of our comments even suggested that it might just be an Xbox arcade game. But now, judging from the screenshots, we could easily tell that this game is different to those simple flash arcade games.

In fact, this game was a launch title for the Japanese Xbox 360. Joystiq has brought about the notice to all of us and mentioned that the game has even been equipped with the online mode for you to challenge your friend. But the only problem lies here, is that the US version is not yet released.

Do we really need this one for the mighty XBox360? ;-)
