Aficionados of Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six: Vegas should be celebrating today. The Red Pack for the game is going to be available sans the Microsoft Points starting today. To mark the occasion, we've got a gameplay video for you from the Black Edition Map Pack, courtesy of GameTrailers.

Rainbow Six: Vegas is looking better and better with the downloadable content, and we can say that the Black and Red map packs may keep you playing for another two or three... weeks. The Black Pack contains five new maps: Red Lotus, Wartown, Neon Graveyard, Streets: Redux, and Presidio. In the video, we catch glimpses of the new maps and well, all the action you can get.

Anyway, we won't spoil the entire video for you. Check out the video in case you haven't gotten the Black Pack yet, though we can't think of reasons why you haven't gotten it - it's free.

Rainbow Six: Vegas - Image 1

If you're a fan of Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six: Vegas, then you'll definitely want to check out what's happening on Xbox Live. The Black Pack, which mysteriously appeared for a short while on XBLM, is making a comeback (uh... now, meaning today). This time, however, it's completely free.

That's right! A new update on Major Nelson's blog confirms that the Black Pack was actually supposed to be free for people to grab and play. To remedy the situation, they'll be issuing automatic reimbursements to people who purchased the pack within 8-10 weeks, so you should see an additional 800 MS points on your account eventually.

You'll also be glad to know that the Red Pack will also be made free beginning July 6. Below is the full statement for details:

Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Vegas Black Pack Downloadable Content for Xbox 360 Live was originally intended to be free content for the fans of Rainbow Six Vegas. We apologize for the error. All players who purchased the Black Pack will be reimbursed automatically. The Black Pack will be posted Saturday June 30th and will be free of charge. Also, as a token of our appreciation for the Rainbow Six community, we are making the Red Pack free as of Friday July 6th as well. Thanks for playing and we hope you enjoy this free content.

No word on whether or not they'll be reimbursing the Red Pack buyers as well, so we sympathize with the folks who might not be getting a refund for that one.

Rainbow Six: Vegas banner - Image 1For the guys who own a copy of Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six: Vegas for their Xbox 360, we've got good news and bad news. The good news: Ubisoft has just released the game's Black Edition Player's Pack. Much like the Red Edition Pack that came before it, Black will feature new goodies that should keep you up and alert for the next few Xbox Live shootouts.

As for the bad news: We've just picked up word via Major Nelson that the aforementioned Black Edition pack has pulled off a Sam Fisher - that is - stealthily vanished from the XBL download list without a trace. There hasn't been any official word on why this happened, although we advise the readers to keep alert in case news on this matter is made known.

Included in Black are 5 new maps; 3 brand-new maps (Red Lotus, Wartown), a redux of Streets, and Presidio from Rainbow Six 3. The download would have cost you about 705.5 MB of HD space, and 800 MS Points.

Rainbow 6 Player's Pack: Red Edition now out for 800 MS points - Image 1

For 800 MS points (US$ 10) you can now pick up the Rainbow Six Player's Pack: Red Edition for Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six: Vegas on Microsoft's Xbox 360. This update is available to all Xbox Live Members in all regions, so you have no excuse not to get this if you are a Rainbow Six fan.

The download offers new multiplayer content with fully-enhanced maps which include Doscala Restaurant, Marshaling Yard, and Roof. Two new game modes have also been added in the form of Assassination (WOOT!) and Total Conquest (yes, it's as cool as it sounds). In Assassination, one team will have to escort a VIP to an extraction point, while the opposing team has to eliminate him, a la Counterstrike. Total Conquest, on the other hand, has two teams fighting to get and retain control of three points on the map.

For those who still love the old maps, there's no need to worry as the two new game modes will also be playable on them, so you can enjoy both Assassination and Total Conquest on familiar ground. Now excuse us, as we have to go memorize the new maps and charge our controller batteries...

The Major League Gaming logo - Image 1The console gaming scene looks to be heating up this April, as we pick up word of the plans for this year's Major League Gaming (MLG) tour. The event will be labelled the Boost Mobile MLG Pro Circuit, and will start next week on April 13 (Friday), in Charlotte, North Carolina (NC).

This year's MLG event is expected to churn out more than US$ 1 million in prizes and pro-gamer bonuses for the duration of the tour, making this the largest prize purse the tour has carried since the league's founding in 2002.

In further news, the league has also announced that it will be adding a new game to its competition line up: Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six: Vegas game for the Xbox 360, published and developed by Ubisoft. In reaction to the news, MLG CEO Mike Sepso said, "We are thrilled that we can share the success of the League in the form of a record prize purse, and welcome Ubi to the Pro Circuit."

The Boost Mobile 2007 Pro Circuit competition will be taking place at five announced cities, with the last two locations to be announced on a further date:
  • April 13 to 15: Charlotte, NC
  • June 8 to10: Meadowlands, NJ
  • July 20 to 22: Dallas, TX
  • August 17 to 19: Chicago, IL
  • September 21 to 23: Orlando, FL
  • National Playoffs and Championship Match: Date and location TBA
Stay posted in case more news drop in regarding this upcoming game tour. Who knows, pro-gamers like Thomas Taylor (a.k.a., Tsquared) may be sighted among the list of competitors.

Best Buy's online store bestbuy.com has lowered its price for Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six: Vegas, slashing about one third off the recommended retail price. The selling price for Chromehounds (Chrome Hounds) has also been slashed, slashing two thirds off the standard retail price.

Apparently bestbuy.com ships games pretty quickly (your items usually leave their warehouse after one business day). If you're not into Internet commerce, you can try to find these games at most Best Buy stores.

Discounted sale price - Rainbow Six Vegas (Xbox 360)...Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six: Vegas continues to be praised by video game news sites, critics, and (more importantly) video game players.

This tactical shooter from Ubisoft Montreal continues to be a strong addition to the Tom Clancy video game collection. It won a number of significant awards from news sites like IGN and GameSpot, and we agree that Rainbow Six: Vegas deserved every single one of them.

The bottom line on Rainbow Six: Vegas: Some believe the graphics are a bit "flat" at times, but the music, technical aspects, and gameplay (the most important thing) prove that this game is a good investment. For many of us here at QJ.NET, it's one of our most-played titles. Standard retail price: US$ 59.99. Sale price at bestbuy.com: US$ 39.99.

Discount sale price - Chromehounds or Chrome Hounds (Xbox 360)...Chromehounds (also known as Chrome Hounds) is a mech simulator video game for the Xbox 360 where you control Hounds, giant walking battle robots in the war for control of Neroiumus.

This From Software / Sega game is not as universally-liked as Rainbow Six: Vegas. Many said that the characters and story are boring, the graphics are too mediocre, the gameplay is too slow, and the Hounds are too cumbersome to control. However, others praise the game's online play and customization options. Then again, From Software's Armored Core series also split the market; you either love 'em or hate 'em.

The bottom line on Chromehounds: If someone's looking for a mecha game or a present for a mecha fan, this might be a good title to pick up - especially now that its price has dropped. Standard retail price: US$ 59.99; note that recent list price for this game has been as low as US$ 29.99 at other outlets. Sale price at bestbuy.com: US$ 19.99.

If you've been skeptical about these two video games for the Xbox 360, now is a good time to try these titles out and save some money in the process.

Well, a considerable amount of time had passed since we talked about Rainbow Six: Vegas for the Xbox 360 and the still to be released PS3 version. Now going over GameTrailers, we found an interesting video interview of two of the people responsible for the game. We are talking about Alexandre Parizeau, the game's producer; and Maxime Beland, the creative director.

The good producer revealed that they are really happy about the feedback that the game is getting since it's their first venture in the world of next-gen consoles. The creative director mentioned that they aimed to go back to the roots of the Rainbow games but they tried to make the game more accessible. The interview went on with the duo tackling about the game's Vegas setting and its features and how important they are for next-gen success. Anyhow, we'll quit babbling and let these two talk about it.

who's got yer back? - Image 1

How have you guys been enjoying yer Rainbow Six: Vegas? Swell, huh? Anyway, just because the game's been out for quite some time now, it does not in any way mean that we'll stop dishing out stuff on it anymore. That's why today, we have five new screenshots to add to the already big collection, this time from the Player's Pack.

RSV has enjoyed quite a steady stream of support from you gamers, as evidenced by its being in the top three Xbox 360 Live titles for the past couple of months since its release. And the turnout for its tourney wasn't all that bad, too. But we're definitely sure there are still some of you who have yet to grab a copy of this tactical shooter from Ubisoft.

So, here's hoping you'll soon jump aboard the fun wagon to Vegas. Maybe these screenies will help you want to get a copy now.
