We last heard about Koei's historical crossover a few months ago, and the only update to that now comes in the form of screenshots - lots of them - showing the video game Warriors Orochi in all its next-gen glory. This game, if you folks still don't know much about it, is a cross between Dynasty Warriors and Samurai Warriors.

These all-new screens give us a glimpse of the Weapon Fusion system, the Serpent King Orochi (with his grand-spanking great scaly armor), and snippets of B-movie quality cheesy lines delivered by the Serpent King's henchmen. But hey, we like them that way, so there's really no reason to complain.

Looks like Koei and its samurai warriors hailing from Japan and ancient China are definitely on the roll these days, what with a Gundam-meets-Dynasty Warriors titles as well as Samurai Warriors-meets Pachinko games. As long as we're all happy about the outcome, there's certainly no harm is getting more historical battles from Koei. More updates as they come!

Warriors Orochi announced by Koei - Image 1

Koei today announced that it is expanding its Warriors video game franchise once more with the introduction of Warriors Orochi. In this new title, the universe of Dynasty Warriors and Samurai Warriors will collide and unite this coming September 18 on the Xbox 360 as well as on PlayStation 2 (PS2).

The premise of Orochi is that the evil Serpent King Orochi descended from the skies above. He has the power to manipulate time and space so he kidnapped the strongest, wisest and most courageous warriors from Ancient China and Feudal Japan. The remaining ones must then unite to fight the King.

As a preview, we have below a lot of screenshots and a piece of artwork for Warriors Orochi. Before that though, here are some of the game's features as provided by Koei itself:
  • Warriors Orochi boasts an amazing roster of 77 playable characters from both the Dynasty Warriors and Samurai Warriors franchises
  • Four action-packed "crossover" storylines unveil events where characters from either series are pitted against one another.
  • The game's new "Team Battle System" and "Weapon Fusion" push Tactical Action to a whole new level.
  • For the first time in Koei's Tactical Action games, players can create their own three-person tag team. At any given time, one warrior will be engaged in battle, while the other two are recuperating, restoring their Life Meters and Musou Gauges.
