World in Conflict - Image 1It looks like game release delays are in vogue right now: Sierra's real time strategy for the Xbox 360, World in Conflict, has suffered a delay that pushes it back to 2008, way behind its original November 13 release.

On the other hand, the PC version of World in Conflict was already released last September 18 in the US, and September 25 in Europe.

Couldn't wait for the Xbox 360 version? We couldn't blame you. Larry Bond's World in Conflict promises to pack a considerable punch for fans of the real-time strategy genre, what with his skills as a Cold War expert. The game also features top-notch graphics, most of which are worthy to be used as desktop backgrounds.

Well, it's better that we give the developers more time if it means an improved game to expect upon its release. More updates to come!

Massive Entertainment's World in Conflict - Image 1

Even if real-time strategy games isn't your cup of tea, Massive Entertainment's latest and hottest World in Conflict (Xbox 360, PC) video game is set to entice you into joining the battlefield. In an interview with Guardian Unlimited, lead game designer Magnus Jansen discussed why Massive's latest title should be able to attract non-hardcore gamers.

At first glance, anyone will fall in love with the game's gorgeous graphics. Not only are the graphics easy on the eyes, it's also a cinch to jump into the action. As Jansen said himself, World in Conflict is free of conventional RTS elements such as base-building and resource management to focus more on fast paced combat.

Instead of giving players the role of commander, World in Conflict offers immersion through characters involved in an engrossing storyline. "We wanted to tell this story through our characters. We're very happy with the end result, and expect that many players will want to play through the single-player campaign," said Jansen.

While multiplayer opens a big window for cooperative team play, Jansen mentioned how single player doesn't fall behind. Maps, units, and balancing come in equal doses for both game modes; solo campaigns just offer less units to choose from in some cases, but that's to "give the player a taste of all branches of the military."

When asked what educational benefits World in Conflict has to offer, Jansen pointed out that the game wasn't designed to be informative. Some lessons can be learned from realistic weapons, vehicles, and locations players will be indulging in, but Jansen made it clear that Massive Entertainment aims for "entertaining and captivating games."

He stressed out how World in Conflict is "not just a game for gamers who consume strategy games on a daily basis." RTS fanatics don't have to fret though, because the game is not closing doors on the hardcore. "To what extent it will reach out beyond this core community is still unsure," Jansen continued.

Whatever faith we ascribe to in life, it has the power to pull us through any curve ball the world can throw our way - even if that curve ball turns out to be a global war that has the potential to wipe us off the face of the planet. We see this fact being demonstrated in the latest trailer video of Massive Entertainment's World In Conflict(PC, XBox 360).

In this video trailer, we see a man preaching energetically to those currently trapped between the two opposing sides of the war. While the visuals themselves are strikingly lifelike, it's the emotional effect that's quite prominent in this video - with the preacher singing to an invisible audience, in time to an invisible choir. The synch between the music and the animation is incredible, and is definitely a must watch for those of us who fancy something a bit more deeper than just the usual gameplay.

Embed's below, you know what to do. Enjoy!

Liepzig's GC 2007 sure is getting its game on with a lot of good stuff being shown off the developers from all over the industry. One particular trailer that caught our eye is that of Massive's upcoming real-time strategy title for the Microsoft Xbox 360 and the PC called World in Conflict. See this to find out why:

Wow, was that Pearl Jam or Creed's old vocalist singing in the background? Maybe neither. It sure sounds like them, though. In any case, the rocking soundtrack perfectly complements the visuals shown in the clip. The retro feel suits this RTS well and we can't wait for some gameplay footage to be seen.

Set in 1988, the story narrates the final phases of the Cold War where economic woes are paralyzing Mother Russia. Instead of following history where the Soviet Union collapses, however, World in Conflict portrays a "what if" scenario where the Red Army keeps the old superpower together and rolls out to wage war on its neighbors. The Western Allies, of course, react out of fear and duty, setting the stage for a dramatic confrontation in a war that never was.

Ever wonder what it would have been like if America was faced with a full-fledged Soviet invasion? Check out Sierra and Massive Entertainment's World in Conflict (Games for Windows, Xbox 360) and you'll wonder no more.

The game is built around a Cold War scenario by author Larry Bond. Soviet forces are marching into Europe, but when NATO responds, they're faced with a full-fledged invasion of America. Now it's up to players to halt the Soviet forces and retake America's cities and suburbs.

Today we've got a new bunch of screenshots from the game, which is slated to hit PCs in September and Xbox 360s later this fall. Check 'em out below. Click on the Full Article link below to see all the new screenshots.

Don't let the funky music fool you. Massive Entertainment's new project World in Conflict is serious as can be. Set in the late 80's where the Soviet Union is slowly being paralyzed by a lethargic economy, the plot breaks away from history as we know it by following a "what if" scenario. In the game, the USSR starts a war instead of breaking into several states, thus triggering a response from the international community.

Another interesting thing to note is that this is one of the few real-time strategy games which do not put players in charge of gathering resources and building structures. A preset number of units will be at hand and in the event that they're taken out, funds will be replenished so you can call in new troops.

World in Conflict is set for release under Sierra Entertainment's banner for the Microsoft Xbox 360 and PC platforms. Watch out for this title if you're on the lookout for an RTS with some fresh ideas.

World in Conflict closed beta over: demo to follow - Image 1

If you've been lucky to join in on the beta test of Sierra and Massive Entertainment's World in Conflict (PC, Xbox 360), then you probably wouldn't be here in QJ to read this bit of news: the closed beta period has ended on July 31, and you'd all have probably picked up this news after the developers dropped a development update on the final day.

But those who haven't been fortunate enough to partake in the fun won't need to fret. Massive Entertainment, creators of the exceptional Ground Control, have announced that a demo of World in Conflict will follow shortly after the closing of the Beta phase. Although no date and no target platforms have been stated as of press time, downloads for the PC are more than a certainty at this point.

Xbox 360 gamers will have to follow up with Swordfish Studios to inquire about the Xbox 360 version of the demo, where the developers are busy creating a more intuitive real-time strategy interface for Xbox 360 controls. Expect the demo within the weeks to follow, before the game's PC debut on September 18 for North America, September 21 for Europe, and Fall 2007 for the Xbox 360 versions.
