Some new X-Men screenshots and artwork, as well as a trailer, have been released. Here are the screenshots.

Here is a bit of the artwork.

Exciting, huh? Well, there's more. An excellent quality trailer has been released as well, depicting Iceman surfing, fighting, and trying to freeze some enemies. The game looks great, and the gameplay is a different style than other X-Men games.

X-Men: The Official Game is set to be released in May by Activision. It was co-written by Zack Penn, one of the screen writers of the upcoming X-Men movie, X-Men: The Last Stand. According to the press release, you will be able to upgrade the three main character (Iceman, Wolverine, Nighcraqler), and get assistance from other characters in the X-Men universe. The game covers events before and after the movie, with most of the scenes from the old movies as playable levels. They claim some sort of exclusive content using the Xbox 360 HD. We'll keep you posted on any news!

You've seen the screenshots. You've heard the pre-release buzz. Now it's time for the trailer! X-men: The Official Game takes place between the X2: X-Men United and X3: The Last Stand movies. The game features anger-management dropout Wolverine, the purple popper Nightcrawler, and Iceman, the walking fridge. They set out on a 28-mission journey to defeat Hydra, Pyro, Magneto, Sabretooth and a host of villains so vile you can't help but love them. Storm, Colossus, and Cyclops also show up to join forces with you in melee fighting, stealth-style action and time-based missions. Actors from the film reprise their roles (appearances and voices) which is a big plus if you like the movies.

As we reported earlier, more exciting news comes from Activision on the new X-MEN game today.  In order to make a more realistic storyline for gamers and fans of the X-MEN universe, Activision has enlisted the help of fan favorite X-Men writer Chris Claremont.  You may remember Claremont handled the writing on Uncanny X-MEN & X-MEN for a combined sixteen years and was responsible for some of the greatest story lines in the X-Universe. Claremont even came out of retirement at fans request to head current titles "Uncanny X-MEN" & "New Excalibur".  Claremont was also responsible for such comics as Sovereign Seven, Gen13, Iron Fist and Ms. Marvel.

Activision in association with Hypnos Entertainment and Z-Axis plans on a multiplatform release for the PS2, X-Box, Gamecube, X-Box 360, PC, Nintendo DS, and Gameboy Advance on May 19th.  No word on a PSP version or release date.  Console versions will have a T rating while the portable versions are slapped with an E rating.

Activision has issued a press statement giving some insight on the game's story and musical feats. The story, in close relation to the upcoming movie "X-Men: The Last Stand", is written by movie co-writer Zak Penn (who has contributed to the screenplays of X2 and Behind Enemy Lines amongst others) as well as popular comic book author Chris Claremont (Uncanny X-Men, New Excalibur). On the musical side, we have renowned VG composer Chance Thomas (Earth & Beyond, LOTR: The War Of The Ring, King Kong The Game)

To go along with that, 3 new screens of Lady Deathstrike in action.

The official X-Men game will be released to coincide with the movie, X-Men: The Last Stand. X-Men fans are obvisouly more excited about the movie than the game, but the screenshots below will definitely increase the anticipation level for the game.

Wolverine, Nightcrawler and Iceman will battle it out with Hydra, the Brotherhood in 28 action-packed missions. The game features character-specific level geometry, mutant powers, and the voices of some of the cast of the movie. The original narrative is written by comic book writer Chris Claremont and X-Men screenwriter Zak Penn.

3565_3Activision has announced a game tie-in for the upcoming movie X-Men: The Last Stand. The title currently sports the working title of X-Men: The Official Movie Game, and is scheduled for a May shipping date for the Nintendo DS, Xbox 360, PC, GameCube, PS2, Xbox and GBA.

Set between the events of the 2003 hit X2: X-Men United and Last Stand, which is due in theaters May 26, X-Men: The Official Movie Game is an actioner that lets players control three members of the titular superhero team. As the teleportin' German, frosty Yankee Iceman, or Adamantium-blade-totin' Canadian Wolverine, players will battle the forces of HYDRA, an evil pan-continential criminal organization featured in many X-Men comic books. The game will also explain why Nightcrawler, one of the most popular X-Men, will not be appearing in the upcoming feature film.
