Fan-made Halo movie poster - Image 1Back in October, we shared with you the not-so-good news that the Halo movie was put on hold after it failed to seal a movie franchise deal with 20th Century Fox and Universal Pictures. After this development, not much has been said about the planned movie which is supposed to be directed by Neill Blomkamp (who directed Alive in Joburg). But recently, Peter Jackson (the movie's would-be producer) talked to Stuff website about it.

Jackson believes that since Halo 3 is going to be released later this year, 20th Century Fox and Universal Pictures would again be interested with the movie project. If that's the case, then Halo 3 sure does have a lot of weight on its shoulders since analysts also believe that the game's sales performance would bring Microsoft's Xbox Division out of constant losses.

The Lord of the Rings director also said that he and partner Fran Walsh will only choose to be involved with the Halo movie project if Blomkamp would be the guy calling the shots. Jackson said, "We wouldn't want to do it with anybody else. It'll be Neill's call".

Well, that's all we have for now but we'll surely give you updates about this as soon as we get more info. For now, you're free to speculate if the movie would push through or be forever shelved.

The Darkness PS3 packshot - Image 1Starbreeze's comic book-inspired game The Darkness (PS3, Xbox 360) already has a release date (June 25 for the U.S., June 29 for Europe) and a demo date for the Xbox 360 version. Now may just be the right time to gaze at the game's final logo and final PS3 packshot.

Of course, when talking about The Darkness, the name Jackie Estacado is bound to be mentioned. Aside from fighting his former employers (his Mafia ex-employers to be exact), he is also fighting the creatures of the Otherworld. And because words are not enough to describe this game of modern day crime drama and supernatural horror, we've hooked you up with a short video teaser of the game. We reported a few days ago that the PC RTS Universe at War: Earth Assault will also be making a debut on the Xbox 360. If words are not enough to give you an idea of the game, then maybe these artwork and screens would do the trick. The game is being developed by Petroglyph while Sega is the publisher. Here is the game's partial feature list:
  • On-the-fly customization lets you adapt dynamically to your opponent, raising the stakes of battle
  • Unique multiplayer achievements and modes that are new to the RTS genre
  • Environmental destruction and manipulation in a persistent world
  • Dual-layer of tactical and global gameplay
  • Special hero units
  • Massive-scale units that dwarf conventional RTS units
  • Real-world, modern-day environments
  • Three unique factions, not including the introductory military faction, which players can control as they learn the game
  • On-demand UI that doesn’t clutter your view of the battle
Aside from all that, Sega mentioned in a just-released press release that they are employing a control scheme built from the ground up for the Xbox 360 version of Universe at War. Below, we have some character renders, artwork, and screens of the game; do check them out. The game is expected to hit store shelves in Q1 2008.

Shane Kim - Image 1After Sony's Kim Nguyen divulged that the PS3 marketing campaign is going to be renewed to cater to the usual non-gamers like Mom and Dad, Microsoft seems to be gearing towards the same thing basing from what Shane Kim said. According to a Reuters report, the Microsoft Game Studios honcho is looking towards giving the Xbox 360 a "kinder, gentler face".

He mentioned that they are currently working on two previously unannounced games which are aimed beyond the hardcore fans. In other words, Microsoft is also looking for ways to cater to casual gamers who have been sweating it out with the Nintendo Wii. This was Shane Kim's words:

We have a couple games that have not been announced...I will tell you that they target a broader market. We think it's very important this holiday, and to winning this generation, to expand beyond our core audience.

This was mentioned during a San Francisco preview event for Halo 3 and with the critical praise given to Viva Pinata, it's not surprising that MS is set to take a gamble for the casual gamers. Although he admits that Viva Pinata isn't flying off store shelves like pancakes, he offers this reason for that:

The fact is that we are not at a mass-market price point...We have that work to do... to make us more palatable to moms and stuff.

As for the Xbox Elite, Kim said that they are "selling everything we can make. People want the black color, they want the bigger hard-drive capacity...And the price is great, especially when compared to the PS3 options".

Splinter Cell Convictions - Image 1 Splinter Cell Convictions - Image 2

Checking out Australian gaming website, mygen, they have posted some scans of Ubisoft's alleged Xbox 360 exclusive, Splinter Cell: Conviction. Apparently, these scans came from a Finnish magazine who is said to have scored an exclusive interview with the Ubisoft folks. There were some info divulged about the game and mygen was kind enough to translate the more important and interesting stuff. Here's what they came up with:

  • No more sneaking around in the shadows...You won't have to use force or sneak around as long as you don't act suspiciously.
  • According to the article, every single object that is rendered on screen has physical properties and most of them can be used by Sam. For example, Sam can pick up furniture and use it as a weapon, or throw printers at enemies or papers in the face of enemies to gain the upper hand in fights.
  • Melee fights are much more than "press this button to hit" this time around. There's different context sensitive attack buttons and as mentioned before lots of environmental interaction.
  • The Ubisoft developers said that the fact that they are exclusive to the 360 allows them to do much more than if they were multiplatform, but they also state they doubt they would be able to achieve what they're doing with the game on the 360 on the PS3 even if it was PS3 exclusive.
Well, that's all we could find for now. Trust us when we tell you that will hook you up with more info when they come our way. For now, check out the scans we have for you all.
