Thailand copies list of violent games to avoid from Detroit list? - Image 1It seems the murder of a taxi cab driver in Thailand has taken an even stranger turn, besides the whole "It's linked to Grand Theft Auto" business. It seems the Thai government has released a list of games that have been deemed as violent games to avoid.

The only thing about it? It seems to have been taken from a list made in Detroit. More after the jump.

Video Games - Image 1Worried about the possibility of video game violence tainting the minds of children, Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy came up with a "do not buy" list of violent video games.

Contrary to what most might expect, Rockstar Games' controversial Manhunt 2 (Wii, Sony PlayStation Portable) isn't the number one violent video game, but Grand Theft Auto is. Check out the Top Ten list in the full article.

XBOX 360The Xbox 360 can be compared to the Da Vinci Code Movie before it came out. It had a LOT of rumors and hype surrounding it. Most people in the gaming industry kept on giving us teasers and "possibilities" regarding the green and mean machine. Most of these rumors are still, well nothing more than rumors (yet), but let's try and see if we can crack the code of their 'legit'-ness.

Microsoft unveiled the HD-DVD drive for their console last E3 as an answer to Sony's Bluray-equipped PS3. Initial speculations say that the drive would probably jack up the Xbox 360 price to around a gigantic $600 (right around PS3's launching price--yikes!). However, words are now circulating that the price would be $200 (but then gain, that's only for the drive). Digitimes supported our old post by telling everyone that "...HD-DVD drives for its Xbox 360 at a retail price of US$200..." Let's hope it stays that way. Mystery #1: Solid but not concrete.

There's also talk going around regarding the 1080p cable support for 360 producing digital picture-like graphics and scenes; again as a counter to the hardware power of PS3. Hopefully, Microsoft changed their views regarding this "impossibility" of 1080p working with any game. Mystery #2: Very Unlikely.

There's also some mentions about a second controller "aimed" for the First Person Shooters out there. Right analog sticks for a better headshot, we say. Unfortunately there was no mention of any kind of new FPS-related controller in the making during the Microsoft Gamefest developers' conference. Let's see if this one pushes through. Mystery #4: Highly unlikely.

When the Da Vinci Code went to theatre release it was received warmly. However, it all died down as the film didn't measure up to people's (high) expectations. Let's pray that the Xbox 360 does better when its reinforcements gets released. We'll give you more information as we get them.

...and the rumor wheel rolls on.

overall Test Drive Unlimited Champion

Atari has just released new info on their upcoming racing title, Test Drive Unlimited. Promising to provide gamers the ultimate experience of racing, customizing, and even crashing world’s hottest cars and bikes made by the likes of Lamborghini, Ferrari, Ducati, Aston Martin, Pagani, etc. - a privilege used to be reserved for the Hiltons, Lohans, and Lebrons of the world. In this press release, juicy info regarding the title's single player game features were revealed. They are:
  • Collect and drive more than 90 of the world’s most exclusive dream cars around the vast tropical road system spanning the Hawaiian island of Oahu (without having to resort to the alibi of "there's a paparazzi chasing me" after they chrash it).
  • On or offline, gamers can take on the challenge of boosting cred and bank balance any time their virtual spoiled self wants it.
  • Play like you're a mechanic of MTV's Pimp my Ride, cause in this game you're given the freedom to customise not only your rides, but your character as well. You can even set up your characters home to a variety of places. Let your imagination run wild and create a Madonna/50 Cent hybrid.
  • Single player challenges include winning all the preset races against up to seven bots, time challenges, speed trap challenges, missions to deliver goods, hitchhikers, and vehicles with good driving and within time limits, and even pulling a top model.
  • If you're more of a collector rather than an inborn Michael Schumacher, please yourself by owning more than 50 cars, 3 bikes, 15 houses, and even having a wardrobe packed with 10 or more Marc Ecko and Ben Sherman outfits - now that's life!
  • Game boost of a very realistic, thus unpredictable, AI for your rival driver. You won't be able to guess what he'll want to do next, aside that he'll race you as hard as anyone can.
  • The progress that players make both on and offline in Test Drive Unlimited all counts towards their profile, with many achievements, such as racking up more than 10,000 miles on the clock, possible online, offline or by using a combination of both.
  • The opportunity of being the grandaddy of racing. Master all online multiplayer and single player challenges and carry the overall Test Drive Unlimited Champion title.
Now, can you feel the need for speed? Don't get caught up with the TDU fever too much, it won't be out until September 2006. So for now, let's content ourselves with watching those sleek cars from afar...
