AFP logoPretend you're British (they know how to be stoic). And since our news source is French, pretending you're British means you'll take the news with a degree of skepticism. The sales figures are for number of consoles sold - this doesn't touch the number of games sold, and it doesn't even talk about profit or how well each company is doing.

It's just sales figures and not an announcement of FTW pwnage. As always, who knows what sales the future will bring?

Wii and PS3. Agence France-Presse (AFP), one of the major news agencies of the world, reports that the Wii sold twice as well as the PS3 in November in the US. Nintendo sold 476,140 Wii consoles. Sony sold 196,580 PlayStation 3 consoles. This is according to the NPD Group (it's them again - this market research group is everywhere).

Xbox 360. That same month of November, Microsoft sold 511,300 of its Xbox 360 consoles in the US. Of course, the Wii and PlayStation 3 weren't released until the middle of November (November 17 for the PS3 and November 19 for the Wii).

The news item from the AFP ended with this: "Wii consoles were snatched-up quickly after their debut in Europe on Friday as the innovative system featuring motion-responsive controllers gained status as the must-have video game." Hm. Snatched-up and innovative and must-have - those are strong words - this is either a sign that whoever wrote this article for the AFP has a pro-Wii bias, or maybe the Wii is really doing that well in Europe.

The AFP is a semi-official press agency chartered by the French government. Make of that fact what thou willst, oh ye gaming-media conspiracy theorists. Hehe.
