And as the 2008 Olympics draws near, it's hype seems to grow more influential. While Beijing has been transformed to house an Olympic city - making the latter a city within a city - Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games makes serious headway into the casual gaming market. Or maybe it's just in the UK, where SEGA's joint Olympics game with Nintendo holds top spot for another week running. |

Drivers, start your engines! It sure looks like there's a new top-notcher on the UK's gaming preference, and it doesn't have anything to do with soccer balls, plumber long jumps or WWII reincarnates. Burnout Paradise from publisher Electronic Arts left the competition in a flurry of dust and burning rubber, and even set EA at a tie for the most games on the top ten with Nintendo. Way back during TGS 2007, it was announced that Mario & Sonic at
the Olympic Games was expected to sell four million copies. While this
hasn't happened yet, it's got a pretty good start as the Wii version of
the game zips and hops up to first place in the UK for individual format sales for the week of December 8. Read the full article for the top 20 games in the UK. |

We're sure you're itching to see how the latest game releases are performing in the UK's Chart Tracks, so we took a look and the results were a mix of the expected and the unexpected. As anyone would have guessed, Activision was able to come in and conquer with its multiplatform juggernaut Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare for the Microsoft Xbox 360, Sony PlayStation 3, and PC. Here's a little trivia for you: if you've ever wondered what gamers from other parts of the world
are playing the most, GfK International, the all-encompassing umbrella
of market research divisions like Gfk Australia, has sent in recently
updated lists of top ten games in Spain and Germany.First up is Nintendo DS-lovin' Spain, whose top four games all cater to Nintendo's handheld. That's Pokemon: Diamond, THQ's Ratatouille, Dr. Kawashima's More Brain Training, and Pokemon: Pearl in order from first to fourth. The top ten games list is half-occupied by Nintendo DS titles, while three of the five games are published by Nintendo. In the German side, 2K Games' BioShock rules the charts, with the PC version (no surprise there) taking top spot. The Xbox 360 version sits just outside of the top five at number six. In similar fashion to Spain, Germany also revels in Nintendo DS games, with both Pokemon titles noted (Diamond still leads Pearl), plus two Nintendo Wii titles to boot. Blizzard's World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade joins BioShock as the only two PC games to penetrate the Nintendo-dominated charts. Read the full article for a quick list of the top ten games in Germany and Spain. |
