Grand Theft Auto 4 for the PS3 and Xbox 360 - Image 1For the past couple of weeks, all we ever heard about Grand Theft Auto 4 (PS3, Xbox 360) was news about its delayed release. Finally, we have some good news for all parties concerned! Some new details on Rockstar's upcoming game have just surfaced right out of Game Informer magazine.

We've taken the snippet from GameFront, and since our German translating madskillz are probably as convincingly perfect as a caterpillar trying pass off as Optimus Prime (wtf?), we'd have to resort to Google Translate. Game Informer lists the following details:
  • The crowds are extremely realistic: you'd see pedestrians buying newspapers at a kiosk, smokers are loitering on corners - some of them might even ask you for a lighter as you pass by.
  • Taxis won't immediately stop in front of you when you whistle or hail one down. Sitting at the back seat gives you an interior view of the vehicle from the first-person. ("With the Digikreuz one selects a driving goal. With the A-key one jumps over the travel and is immediately at the goal. With X one says to the driver to drive faster with Y steps out one. The right analog stick moves the camera.")
  • The Jamaican weapons dealer, Little Jacob, must be coerced while going through your tasks. He's got a whole stash of fire power in his trunk and will do business once you establish a good relationship with him.
  • For the first time ever, calendar days are going to be accounted for in the game; individual work days will also affect your gameplay.
  • Protection from gun spray will vary depending on what type of material you hide behind.
So much for loose translations. In any case, we are now reassured that the delay isn't so bad after all. Polishing the game to perfection is always better than a premature release.

Sega - Image 1Sega was pretty generous in providing information as to the release dates of its games for the PAL region. We at QJ were lucky enough to get them from German site GameFront, and so we turn them over to you, as you are the ones to benefit from it the most.

There's a lot of good video games lined up for this year, especially for the coming Autumn season. Of course, Sega also has lineups for the coming summer, and Holidays. However, there are no specific dates yet, basically, except for the Mental game Crush for the PSP. This one will be heading out your way next week, May 25.

But despite that lack of exact information, at least you have a basic idea as to when to prepare for these games. Check out the full list below.

Square Enix, what say you? - Image 1News got out that Square Enix has registered The Last Remnant as a video game title last April 24. Now, we haven't a clue what this game or its name means, but we can offer some guesses as to what The Last Remnant might be.

Gaming site Gameswank has theorized that this might be a Square Enix game for either the Nintendo Wii or for Microsoft's Xbox 360. That could be possible as the game company tends to branch out and experiment on both established and newly-launched consoles. And there are speculations circulating that this could also be a game for the handhelds. From what we gather, there's no indication in the trademark (screenshot here) that it isn't.

But here's what we've been hearing about Square Enix's latest registered game: It could very well be a "sub-title to an already well-known product" (translated from GameFront entry). What video game and genre is Squeenix known for again? But then there's that next-gen MMORPG the company's rumored to be working on...

Again, there's nothing much we could glean on the The Last Remnant trademark document. And until Square Enix announces anything about this, we can only guess.

Tom Clancy's EndWar: AKA putting all his books into action - Image 1

This may literally be the biggest Tom Clancy-licensed game ever. Details of Tom Clancy's EndWar popped up at GameFront.de, and while the Google Translation is, well, marred enough to make a German Army drillmaster blush, context can be understood to give the following details:

All military ops are ultimately won by boots on the ground - yours. - Image 1Remember the persistent online multiplayer mode of Chromehounds? That's it. That's EndWar. "Each player participates in this one, world-wide online campaign," with the victor being the one who can conquer his two faction enemies. Those three factions (or parliamentary groups) are: the US Joint Strike Force, the European Enforcers, and Russian Spetsnaz.

(No word if Ghost, Rainbow, or Splinter Cell will make any appearances. Ghost is part of the US military, although available as a NATO unit; Rainbow is, at least in the Ryanverse books, a multinational force operating within the NATO framework, and Splinter Cell is in the NSA. These parameters don't make it easy for these groups to make - at least - any playable appearances, not in this kind of game.)

Based on what GameFront has mentioned about EndWar, and given the arguments presented in "The Gospel of Strategy Games According to Consoles", me likee, me very likee.

(CAVEAT EMPTOR: Except for the game logo, pictures used in this article are not - REPEAT - are not from the game. Personally, I believe pics aren't forthcoming until EGM's June issue scoop. Instead, pictures depicting aspects of modern war were used as placeholders. What, you wanted to read a boring block of text instead, soldier?)

Soldier, you have to jump. If you don't, you're not going to find out about the RTS-console exclusivity, voice commands, and smart soldiers. Oh, that and your buddies are going to die in that firefight down there.

Haze - Image 1German gaming news website GameFront has managed to score some info on Free Radical and Ubisoft's upcoming shooter Haze courtesy of the June 2007 issue of Independent PlayStation Magazine.

According to GameFront, Haze runs on its own engine at a framerate of 30 fps. Loading times and "intermediate sequences" are supposedly nonexistent. It has four gameplay modes: online, offline, LAN, and split-screen. In single player, team members will be controlled completely by the computer. Oh, and the main character seems to have undergone a name change. While he was referred to as Jake Carpenter in previous interviews, the GameFront post mentions him as "Shan" Carpenter.

The weapons and gear available in the game include the following:
  • BSW-72 Assault Rifle - fires armor-piercing 5.56mm uranium projectiles
  • Trooper Assault Helmet - supplies real-time data to troopers on the battlegrounds while keeping constant contact with the base through a built-in communication device
  • Nectar administrator - found on the neck of soldiers. Has up to five doses of Nectar, a "biometric substance" that greatly augments a soldier's combat abilities. Too much Nectar has side effects, though.
  • SK3 Fragment Shells - ideal for clearing up massed enemies and destroying small vehicles
  • Wilson D6 Pistol - equipped with 2x magnification and a laser target and holds 18 shots.
  • Integrated Schutzpanzer - no idea what "Schutzpanzer" means exactly, but the description leads us to believe that this is the heaviest armor in the game ("withstands the most rifle and pistol balls")
Haze is slated for a multiplatform release on the PS3, Xbox 360, and PC. A specific release date has yet to be announced, but some sites have the game's release listed as November.

Capcom - Image 1April 12 is a few winks away and hopefully, Capcom and Christian Svensson will fulfill their promise of a game-related announcement. For now, we would have to make do with other Capcom announcements. Checking out German gaming site, Gamefront, we managed to find a PAL schedule of Capcom game releases. Here are the titles that our European friends could expect.
So there. For now, we'll have to make do with this tidbit. Here's to hoping that Capcom will throw us a good chunk of news come the Capcom Gamer's Day Event happening on April 12.
