Looks like Take-Two Interactive is moving some chess pieces for a formal announcement of something big soon. Big in the sense of moving corporate squares, perhaps. A recent trademark filing from T2 was recently spotted - one for an "Irrational Boston". You don't have to look far to assume what it could possibly be. I'm sure some of you guys remember Irrational Games, yes? |

Speaking at the GDC in Paris, BioShock (PS3, Xbox 360, PC) lead programmer Chris Kline said that the game should gave failed from the get-go. Take-Two Interactive has formally announced the formation of 2K Marin, proving previous ponderings on the subject to be true. 2K Marin now joins the ranks of 2K Boston and 2K Australia, the two teams that was once known as a singular: Irrational Games, the group that developed Bioshock. Irrational Games split into two after the completion of Bioshock, introducing the 2K Boston and 2K Australia studios. Now it looks like a new studio is being set up in the Bay Area. According to a cached job listing in Gamasutra, the new studio is to be called 2K Marin and will comprise of some of the people who created Bioshock. More at the full article. |

There have been a lot of rumors about Irrational Games' Bioshock title for the Xbox 360 and Games for Windows platforms going to Sony's PlayStation 3.
Reports claim that Microsoft doesn't have a complete exclusivity for

It appears that Take-Two Interactive is readying another patch update for Irrational Games' BioShock title for the Xbox 360 and PC. The report we're picking this up from indicates that the company's recruiting community playtesters to try the new patch out. Given that Take-Two gagged this topic with an NDA, however, that's pretty much all we have to go on for the moment. As you guys may recall, BioShock received a surprise patch update just last month. And while this patch was expected to help smooth out the game's performance, there were also reports coming in that it instead created more bugs - game lag being among the worst of the ailments. As much as the FPS Bioshock (Xbox 360 and PC) is enjoying tremendous commercial success around the globe, its fans were alarmed the other day as a surprise patch update suddenly appeared. We say surprise because no one knows for sure what purpose it exactly serves.Xbox Live Director of Programming Larry Hyrb (aka Major Nelson) tried to contact 2K Games and Irrational Games for some clarifications about the matter. This response the Major received was: Update improves stability when loading autosaves and overall game stability, corrects audio during title menu loading, and addresses AI behaviors regarding use of health stations. It looks like the update was for a good reason after all. Prior to this, some gamers were complaining about a bug that involved skipping, aspect ratio issues, and unexpected pauses among others. Quite intriguingly, some have reported that they began experiencing the issues after they've installed the update. |

Earlier rumors about BioShock's release for the PS3 have been quashed and dealt with a few months ago, but the interesting config.ini file found in the PC BioShock demo revealed a quite interesting bit of news. Check out this bit of code taken from PC BioShock demo's config.ini: [Console] Console (XBox360, PS3) specific settings StreamingDynamicFloatingLimit: If this is a positive number, then instead of using the fixed per-level limits, the StreamingDynamic resource will use as much memory as is available as long as the total memory allocated by the game is less than the specified number. In other words, StreamingDynamic will grow and shrink to fit to the available memory instead of being locked to a fixed budget StreamingDynamicFloatingLimit=500 You read that right, there's indeed "PS3" listed in the possible console specific settings. Is it because Irrational Games and 2K Games decided to release BioShock on Sony's PlayStation 3 after all? However, there's also a possibility that the PS3 bit was put in before it was determined that BioShock is going to be an exclusive title for the Xbox 360. There's so many speculations that can be drawn by that small bit of information, and it is certainly intriguing. We're going to keep you tabbed on this bit of news so stay tuned! |
