Haze - Image 1German gaming news website GameFront has managed to score some info on Free Radical and Ubisoft's upcoming shooter Haze courtesy of the June 2007 issue of Independent PlayStation Magazine.

According to GameFront, Haze runs on its own engine at a framerate of 30 fps. Loading times and "intermediate sequences" are supposedly nonexistent. It has four gameplay modes: online, offline, LAN, and split-screen. In single player, team members will be controlled completely by the computer. Oh, and the main character seems to have undergone a name change. While he was referred to as Jake Carpenter in previous interviews, the GameFront post mentions him as "Shan" Carpenter.

The weapons and gear available in the game include the following:
  • BSW-72 Assault Rifle - fires armor-piercing 5.56mm uranium projectiles
  • Trooper Assault Helmet - supplies real-time data to troopers on the battlegrounds while keeping constant contact with the base through a built-in communication device
  • Nectar administrator - found on the neck of soldiers. Has up to five doses of Nectar, a "biometric substance" that greatly augments a soldier's combat abilities. Too much Nectar has side effects, though.
  • SK3 Fragment Shells - ideal for clearing up massed enemies and destroying small vehicles
  • Wilson D6 Pistol - equipped with 2x magnification and a laser target and holds 18 shots.
  • Integrated Schutzpanzer - no idea what "Schutzpanzer" means exactly, but the description leads us to believe that this is the heaviest armor in the game ("withstands the most rifle and pistol balls")
Haze is slated for a multiplatform release on the PS3, Xbox 360, and PC. A specific release date has yet to be announced, but some sites have the game's release listed as November.

You can't hate Nero, people. At least he ain't Raiden. - Image 1

Put Ebony and Ivory away. Wanna see the PlayStation Magazine (PSM) Devil May Cry 4 (PS3, Xbox 360, PC) issue? Now presuming you don't have a subscription, ConsoleWars.de has their PSM scanned. Details extracted (okay, maybe those have circulated already). Nero teeth-whitened and skin-exfoliated (you'll see what we mean in one of the scans - wait, are his lower teeth a darker shade?).

And thanks to these scans, we learn that PSM hypothesizes: "Is Nero Vergil from DMC3?" Oh, how we suffer these conspiracy theories so.

Devil wanna cry. - Image 1

The latest issue of PSM: Independent PlayStation Magazine says it has some new information on the beloved Devil May Cry series' fourth installment. While the new information isn't exactly "new" per se, it does make us wish we knew more about Nero and what Capcom has in store for him.

According to the mag, we should expect to see some good old staples of the franchise reappearing in new forms. "It's safe to say that the generational leap in hardware has not caused the series to lose sight of what it is: pure, all-out, unforgiving action, writes the magazine. "Many mainstays from the series, including colored orbs, air juggling, and the Euro-gothic aesthetic remain intact - only everything is rendered in eye-blistering high-definition at a locked 60 frames per second."

One other thing you should remember from the preview is that Nero is his own man. While he may look like a clone of Dante, we've been assured in the preview that it isn't the case. "While his standard gun and sword attacks may seem similar to Dante's," the magazine notes, "the animations when using his Devil Bringer are simply gorgeous."

Simply gorgeous, eh? As long as his coolness doesn't start looking more like a Justin Timberlake clone, we're all game for this new title. Oh, and one tidbit from the mag: Playable Dante. How cool is that?

GTA IV from Rockstar Games for the Xbox 360 and PS3 - Image 1News direct from GTA4.net, a forum participant claimed that the Official PlayStation Magazine will be featuring a full-blown, exclusive look at the highly-anticipated Grand Theft Auto sequel from Rockstar Games. The next issue of the UK version of the Official PlayStation Magazine should be up for sale on May 2, 2007.

OPM UK's editor Tim Clark has confirmed the claims, stating that the feature is not just a coverage of the Grand Theft Auto IV (for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3) trailer released just last week (or real-life versions of it). He claimed that fans of the game can expect brand new and exclusive screenshots and insider info straight from Rockstar.

Since the Official U.S. PlayStation Magazine has been discontinued, U.S. fans could probably just opt for the GameInformer feature of GTA IV also coming this May. GTA4.net has officially announced that it will provide a full coverage of the preview right on their website.

Are you still boycotting Devil May Cry 4 because Capcom let go of its previous PlayStation 3 (PS3) exclusivity and decided to release the video game both on the Xbox 360 and PC? Well, we found new information about Nero and the video game in general. After reading this, we believe that you'll ultimately embrace the game once more.

Take note that information here was gathered from the article published by the PlayStation Magazine (PSM) in its latest issue (which have also been posted on several gaming sites). Some of you may know some of these already but most will come in as a surprise. Before we talk about Devil May Cry 4 in general, let's discuss Nero's listed moves first. They are as follow:
  • Charge Shot - Hold square to charge, then release to fire (As well as shooting bullets in rapid succession, you can charge up your gun for a slower, but more powerful shot.)
  • Exceed - Pull L2 to charge the EX-gauge (Reving your EX-gauge like a motorcycle handle, you can build up to three levels of extra power for your moves.)
  • Streak - While holding R1, press the left stick towards the enemy + triangle (Streak is a powerful forward strike.)
  • High Roller - While holding R1, press the left stick away from the enemy + triangle (Air juggle)
  • Hell Bound - Face the Grim Grip and press R1+Circle (Think of this as a a grappling hook-like move that you can use to reach far away platforms - but only if there is a globe to catch.)
  • Buster - Press circle near an enemy (This attack can be performed after you catch an enemy. Best used at the end of a combo, since it doesn't work well with juggling.)
  • Snatch - While facing an enemy, press R1+circle (Used to grab enemies in the air or on the ground)
Aside from these, PSM also mentioned that a lot of graphics upgrade were done to DMC4. Everything is running at constant 60fps, characters are a lot more expressive, 16x9 aspect ratio, same graphics engine as Dead Rising, attention paid to every detail in the game that is staggering.

It was also said that Vergil was still not confirmed to be in the game but quite curiously, Capcom didn't also say anything about removing him. You should also beware of Variel and the Frosts. Variel will use well the destructible environment to hurt your character while Frosts can appear and re-appear, not to mention their ability to attack in group.

Gaming Magazines - Image 1Gamers are now preferring other media for gaming information, it would seem, as the latest figures have revealed that uni-platform gaming magazines are in continuing decline.

ABC has revealed that many Future and Imagine titles has fallen once again. While the sales figures for the Official PlayStation Magazine 3 were not provided, OPSM2's monthly circulation is down by 24 percent from the August 2006 figures, hitting 76,351.

Official Xbox 360 sales, however, were boosted coming up from 42,680 to just over 56,000. A very good news for publisher Future, since it has closed Official Xbox publication recently.

Without the OPSM3 figures, monthly sales of the official titles went down to 175,368, compared to 218,863 six months ago.

In the lead in the unofficial mag titles is Imagine-published Play, with sales of 29,000 despite a 37.5 percent drop in readership compared to last year. Future's PSW figures went down from nearly 34,500 to just over 26,000 copies. Other Imagine titles went down with the following statistics: Powerstation with 15,171 copies from 22, 288 last year, 360 with 11,369 copies from 13,098.

Future published PC gaming titles went down with the following numbers: PC Zone from just over 30,000 to 27,000 while PC Gamer lost 1675 readers, hitting just over 43,600. The decline for PC titles appears to be slow but steady.

The bright spot for these gaming magazine publishers were seen in the stable sales position of multi-platform magazines. Future's Games Master sales hovers around the 54,000 mark while Imagine's Games TM sales stays at 20,000. Future's Edge sales also rose up to four percent from 33,597 to 35,145.

Recently, Nintendo has been grabbing a lot readers' attention, it would seem, after a 17 percent rise in the sales of Official Nintendo Magazine, with readers buying 43,000 copies a month.

James Ashton of Future Publishing complained that the falling magazine sales are to be blamed on the rapid transition to next-generation consoles and the rise in the amount of video game coverage in the mainstream media. Guess we'll be seeing more of you guys checking out this site!
