NPD's April numbers are in: GTA4 sells 2.85 million, didn't move Xbox 360, PS3 sales as expected - Image 1The performance of Rockstar Games' Grand Theft Auto IV (PlayStation 3, Xbox 360) back in the prime of springtime was a grand turnout for both the developers and publisher Take-Two Interactive. For all it's million selling feats though, it couldn't improve the sales of either Microsoft or Sony's next generation consoles. And as you can guess, the Nintendo Wii reigns supreme over all in hardware sales by as much as 3 to 1. Get the facts straight at the full story.

Japan Game Sales for the week of October 28 - Image 1The Nintendo DS rules the charts in Japan once again, and Final Fantasy Tactics A2: The Sealed Grimoire leads the charge on its first week out, with five more DS games trailing. The Xbox 360 and the PSP have no top ten entries for the latest numbers from Japan.

Though it doesn't even come close to the other smash success from Square Enix (do you remember that little game called Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII?), Final Fantasy Tactics A2 still did pretty well for itself with 142,000 units sold on its first week, almost double that of the game in second place.

The first PSP game to enter the game is Gundam Battle Chronicles in 15th place and the fist Xbox 360 game, Bladestorm: The Hundred Years' War is in 33rd place. The charts have done considerably better this week than than last. Sales are generally on the up and up. Here are the top ten games in Japan for the week of October 28:
  1. Final Fantasy Tactics A2 (DS) - 142,000 units
  2. Ar Tonelico (PS2) - 72,500 units
  3. World Soccer Winning Eleven DS: Goal to Goal (DS) - 29,000 units
  4. Imabikisou (PS3) - 22,500 units
  5. DS Literature Collection (DS) - 21,000 units
  6. Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion (DS) - 20,000 units
  7. Ghost Squad (Wii) - 19,500 units
  8. God of War II (PS2) - 17,000 units
  9. DS Nishimura Kyotarou Suspense Detective Series: Deadly Intent (DS) - 17,000 units
  10. Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Time Expedition Party (DS) - 16,000 units

JApan: Halo 3 tops the charts - Image 1Considering that the Xbox 360 hasn't sold nearly as much as the PlayStation 3 or the Wii in Japan, it's a huge achievement for Halo 3 to top Media Create's charts. It's up and away the top seller there, with 58,670 units sold for the week ending on September 30.

Halo 3 sold about  2,000 units more than the runner up, Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Toki. Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII is still a heavyweight on third place. Other games that have debuted on top 10 in Japan is Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion for the PS3 (9th) and Bleach Blade Battlers (6th).

Interestingly enough, there aren't any Wii games on top ten. It probably won't bump off Nintendo, but perhaps Halo 3 has found favor for the Xbox 360 in Japan?

Media Create charts - Image 1Thanks in part to the success of Square Enix's Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII, the Sony PlayStation Portable has shot to the top of the Japanese hardware charts for the week ending September 16.

Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII dominated the Japanese software charts, selling 487,000 copies in its first week of release alone. Second and third place went to the DS titles Pokemon Fushigi no Dungeon: Toki no Tankentai and Pokemon Fushigi no Dungeon: Yami no Tankentai respectively.

Meanwhile, the PSP sold 95,487 units in the week ending September 16, a huge jump from its sales figure of 15,564 units for the week before that. The Nintendo DS continued to have steady sales, holding the number 2 spot with 79,974 units. The Nintendo Wii was in third place with 26,181.

Sony's PlayStation 2 and PlayStation 3 home video consoles held the fourth and fifth positions respectively - the former selling 13,128 units and the latter selling 13,101 units. The Microsoft Xbox 360 was in sixth place with 1243 units sold.

World of Warcraft - Image 1What are they playing over at Sweden? Aren't you curious? This bit of info just might save your life one day, y'know. The region's data trade firm, Dataspelsbranschen (now try saying that as fast as you can, ten times consecutively), has just released the top sales charts of video games for Sweden.

The Multiplatform chart is dominated by the MMORPG mogul that is The World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade from Blizzard. This is followed by Pokémon Diamond on the Nintendo DS. MotorStorm and R:FoM have also landed a place in the multiplatform chart, and unsurprisingly, both titles get bragging rights in the PS3 chart.

The 360 chart has Guitar Hero II fronting the musical act - and smack dab in the middle is Gears of War on fifth place. The Wii has Leon Kennedy and Ashley Graham running up to first place with Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition, while Twilight Princess is galloping up to the Top 2 spot.

On the handheld side, the DS chart has both Pokemon (Diamond and Pearl) titles on top, while the PSP chart has Pro Evolution Soccer 6 kicking into the goal - Konami's sports title is enjoying the kingly spot on top.

 Multiformat

  1. World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade (PC)
  2. Pokémon Diamond (DS)
  3. World of Warcraft (PC)
  4. Counter-Strike 1: Anthology (PC)
  5. Guitar Hero 2 Rock the 80´s (PS2)
  6. The Sims 2 H&M Fashion (PC)
  7. Pokémon Pearl (DS)
  8. Motorstorm (PS3)
  9. Resistance: Fall of Man (PS3)
  10. Singstar 90's (PS2)
