Tetris turns 25 - Image 1There are three things that I will forever be grateful to Russia for - vodka, Maria Sharapova, and the patriarch of puzzle games, Tetris. Today, June 6th 2009, marks the 25th year after it was conceived by its dad, Alexey Pajitnov. Tetris is more than just a game, it's an institution, an icon, and inspiration behind the hilarious Japanese Human Tetris game show. To celebrate this milestone, Tetris rights owner Blue Planet Software plans to unveil a motion-based Tetris game later this year.

On Shelves This Week - Image 1It's a zoo out there this week, yes it is! We've got a better number of releases for April 19 to 25 compared to the past couple of weeks, and all I can say is Zoo Games is definitely on a roll. We've got 13 games in total listed here today, and three of them are all from the Zoo. What should be even more exciting, though, is the release of Dynasty Warriors: Gundam 2 and Excitebots: Trick Racing for the Wii. List awaits, it's all yours.

Smoking Kills..hahaha - Image 1The boys are back in Battlefield: Bad Company 2 (PS3, Xbox 360), and they're killing so fast that you don't have time for a cigarette break. Smoking kills - not because of the harmful lung damage, but because you'll be distracted enough for someone to strike you down from behind. Catch that and all the bloody goodness in the video.

Devil Jin - Image 1Tekken isn't always about juggling and death-combo-ing your opponent, sometimes it's just cool to sit back and read about the character profiles and why on earth they decided to take a beating in the King of Iron Fist Tournament. For Tekken 6: Bloodline Rebellion (PS3, Xbox 360), Namco Bandai just released some fresh new info on some of our well-loved (and hated) characters about how they made it to the new tournament. And oh, a few new screens too!

About a few months ago, Saber Interactive is a video game developer based in Saint Petersburg, Russia. They focus on first person shooter games. It released the game Will Rock in 2003, and is currently developing another game called TimeShift.">Saber Interactive's TimeShift for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC got pulled into the proverbial wormhole for some major design revamps. Aside from several tweaks to the game's mechanics and graphics, the team was also going to integrate the Havok 4.5 physics engine, which was hoped to bring out even more of the game's potential.

Now, in case you're wondering how the title's looking in light of its overhaul (and previous trailers), we've pick up a new gameplay trailer for your viewing pleasure - and it's just in time for E3 2007.

Currently published by Sierra Entertainment, TimeShift is expected to launch this Fall. Keep an eye out in case we hear more details.

Saber Interactive is a video game developer based in Saint Petersburg, Russia. They focus on first person shooter games. It released the game Will Rock in 2003, and is currently developing another game called TimeShift.">Saber Interactive, the guys behind the Sierra's chrono shooter for the PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, was given an entire year to patch up a game that was reportedly plagued with "seven bugs." But following a year's delay, TimeShift underwent a complete overhaul.

TimeShift gets a facelift - Image 1

In an interview with IGN, it has been revealed that the game's visual appeal took an "up close and personal" feel, sporting immense detail and darker theme than before. But that's not all. The game also endured the trashing of four entire levels, overall character redesigns, tweaking to time control mechanics and gameplay, integration of the Havok 4.5 physics engine and a painful revamp of the entire graphics engine.

But why go through all that trouble? That's because Saber considered TimeShift's old iteration as uncompetitive in a "post-Unreal Engine 3" world. Also Saber's Kyle Peschel explained that gamers didn't quite get the "Steam Punk" bit, and believes that they've done well with the new face of TimeShift.

A few of the maps have even been made larger. Physics have been improved that an enemy's gibs won't just fly over the place, they'll flip-flop and dance around until they land. New scripting made enemies more lifelike in their mannerisms, while Saber Interactive hopes to deliver the title balanced in performance and features over all platforms.
