Samurai Shodown - Image 1Shin Nihon Kikaku, or just plain ol' SNK, made the 2007 Tokyo Game Show more interesting by announcing that the fighting game Samurai Shodown 2 will be making its way to the Xbox Live Arcade and the Nintendo Wii in the coming months. Japan's XBLA will be getting a port of the original Samurai Shodown 2, while the Wii will get the Samurai Shodown Anthology which is a collection of the six main games. No news yet if the port Samurai Shodown 2 will reach the U.S.' XBLA.

Samurai Shodown, also called Samurai Spirits in Japan, was first released for the home console version of the NeoGeo system, and was highly popular among gamers because of its apparent originality when it came to the game's aesthetics, background music, and fast-paced gameplay. Samurai Shodown was ported to different platforms.

SNK also announced that another game from the series, Samurai Shodown Sen (or Samurai Spirits Flash), will be hitting arcades this year. This game will be made in full 3D with the Taito Type-X arcade board's help. The developer's other game, King of Fighters: Maximum Impact Regulation "A" 2 is still on schedule and will be in arcades this year. World Gorgeous for the Sony PlayStation 2 was also shown at the TGS.

We'll follow up on these games when more announcements from SNK come in.

EXIT from Taito coming to XBLA - Image 1

One of the PSP's earliest games (and a bit of a smash hit, at that) is about to be reincarnated onto Xbox Live Arcade. As revealed in a recent issue of Famitsu, Taito's EXIT will be heading to the Japanese XBLA network this summer for 800 MS Points. No word yet of a release in other regions, but you can bet you bucks on Mr. ESC to show himself around these waters soon enough.

For those not familiar with EXIT, think Oddworld meets Elevator Action meets Superman Returns meets Mappy meets, uh, Pepsi Man. Categorically speaking, it's an action-puzzler where you have to escape from a building and rescue people along the way. There's going to be obstacles too, so running straight through a level won't benefit either. You're still going to have to use your brains too, all the while under the pressure of a time limit.

The developers have confirmed new and exclusive levels for the XBLA version of the title. The art style and 2D perspective of the PSP version will be retained, however, it'll be in high-def now. More updates? You betcha.

Shrek 3 - Image 1For those of you who haven't been keeping track of releases that are looming large, there's no need to worry. We're filling you in on releases for the week of May 6 and this wave of titles is one of the better ones in quite a while. Here they are:

For the Microsoft Xbox 360:
For the Sony PlayStation Portable:
  • Heatseeker
  • Taito Legends Power Up
  • Driver 76
  • Winx Club: Join the Club
  • Hot Wheels Ultimate Racing
For the Nintendo DS:
  • Devilish
  • Etrian Odyssey
  • Chicken Shoot DS
For the PC:
  • The Sims 2: Deluxe DVD
  • Mission: Combat Force
  • Dream Day Wedding
  • Locomania
  • Circus Empire
  • Concentration
The Games for Windows platform is showing a lot of genre diversity as well as a robust number of titles. More eye-catching, though, is the Xbox 360, which has only two releases but they're big. The game tie-in of everyone's favorite ogre movie comes as Shrek the Third barges in with the rest of the hilarious gang. More serious gamers, on the other hand, are looking out for Command and Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars which promises to innovate the RTS genre and add more firepower to the already immortal franchise.

No releases have been announced for the PS3 and the Wii.
