Section 8 - Image 1TimeGate's Section 8 (PC, Xbox 360, PS3) hasn't really been generating a lot of news lately. The last time we heard about it, there were some courtroom shenanigans involved. This update, though, is definitely much better than that last one.

F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin - Image 1While ports are definitely a good way of spreading the love, so to speak, when it comes to game titles, there are still those instances that also do contribute to the negative end of the spectrum. Case in point, Monolith's F.E.A.R. (Xbox 360, PS3, PC) franchise.

Earlier today, we found out from Game Informer that TimeGate Studios of Kohan and F.E.A.R. Extraction Point fame revealed some tidbits on the next big FPS title: Section 8. Futuristic setting where a bunch of grunts called Section 8 will try to save the world - generic sci-fi storyline, some would say.

Even so, the scope of the project alone is enough to keep our eyes peeled on this upcoming title. Said to be TimeGate's "most ambitious to date," the game could potentially bring out everything next-gen consoles and PC have to offer. Why do we say that, you ask? Section 8 will be in the works 'til 2009, and we've found this teaser that looks nothing less than spectacular.

Game Informer has posted a few bits of info on Gamecock and TimeGate Studios' upcoming next gen sci-fi FPS title Section 8. The game is currently being developed by the same people behind the Extraction Point expansion pack for F.E.A.R. and the Kohan series.

Section 8 takes place in the far future where frontier colonies are constantly under threat of attack. When battles rage across these war-torn planets, Section 8 - Earth's elite power-armored infantry unit - gets called. Players will be given tactical control of Section 8 and its array of high-tech weaponry and equipment to break through enemy lines and alter the flow of combat.

"We are ecstatic to be working with a publisher as developer-friendly and supportive of original ideas as Gamecock," said Adel Chaveleh, President and CEO of TimeGate. "Section 8 is our most ambitious project to date, and it’s really exciting to have the full support of our publisher to deliver the absolute best game possible."

Section 8 is currently scheduled for release on next gen video game consoles and PC in 2009.

TimeGate to announce new games - Image 1

In the wake of TimeGate Studios' hiring of Evolve's public relations specialties, information has leaked out that the Texas-based developer would soon announce three new titles that will hit both the PC and console. Indications that one of them will be the Unreal Engine 3 MMO title that they hinted at before aren't apparent, but it could be possible.

Even while TimeGate was at the verge of a major announcement, there are notably no other juicy bits of information that made their way to the open. Gamasutra reports that it could very likely that Section 8, a title that TimeGate mentioned to be working on back in E3 2005, would also be one of the three titles to be announced.

Section 8 is a first-person shooter which happens to be in the hands of the makers of Kohan and Axis & Allies, and it was noted that the game would become a blend between strategy and FPS. TimeGate is likely to use its current experience with shooter elements having worked on F.E.A.R. Extraction Point expansion pack for the PC version of F.E.A.R.

FEAR gets a blog, yes it does!

Bad pun, great game. Lucky for us, Sierra Entertainment and Monolith have set up a blog for eager gamers to get the latest news and information about the game's development.

Currently, there's only an introductory post by Rob Loftus, Senior Producer for F.E.A.R, but it gives us an idea of what to expect from the F.E.A.R. developer's blog as well as a quick recap of what's happened so far. Due to the great demand for the game, they've already launched additional content, such as maps and a developer tool for mapmakers. They've also come up with F.E.A.R. Combat, which is getting a lot of playtime from gamers. Lastly, their current success with the PC version has given them the opportunity to talk to TimeGate Studios to make an expansion pack, known as Extraction Point.

On the other side, Loftus has also mentioned that they've been working hard on the ports for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. The good news for Xbox 360 fans is the game nearing completion, meaning that, once Microsoft checks their work, the game will be on for single-player and multi-player very soon. As for the PS3 version, Day 1 Studios is hard at work with the final versions of the console to work out the kinks for making the game work smoothly with the PS3.

Keep checking QJ for any important updates to F.E.A.R. development, and don't hesitate to show your support for Sierra as they work to bring F.E.A.R. into everyone's hearts.

FEARAfter the Monolith and Vivendi split, gamers were left to wonder what was going to happen to the interesting and gory world of F.E.A.R., especially now that the Xbox 360 has an adaptation of this PC game.

In place of Monolith's creative prowess, Day 1 Studios has stepped in to develop the Xbox 360 version of F.E.A.R. while TimeGate is attending to the PC expansion pack. Both these developers will continue with the storyline that made the game work - paranormal elements in this bloody first-person shooter will still be present. F.E.A.R.'s version for the 360 will have the PC game's original content while at the same time using the 360's high quality graphical settings.

The Xbox 360 version will have a new single player content not in the PC game, an Instant Action mode where the player has to go through a level to take on a large number of enemies using as much efficiency, speed and lethality as possible. End-of-level or post-death stats will be provided to the player on an analysis screen after the game, while the final score will be uploaded to the Xbox Live leaderboards.

Vivendi also plans on utilising the Xbox Live by adding a brand new multiplayer content, as it still plans on providing improvements for F.E.A.R.
