Hopefully, the guys over at Silicon Knights will be able to make things work come the game's release date, but for now, Denis Dyack - president of Silicon Knights - gamely answered some inquiries with regards to the game. When he was asked about the framerate and camera issues that the game encountered during its E3 stint, Mr. Dyack said that it was a domino effect of sorts, starting from "significant technology issues with the engine that we licensed" which pretty much affected everything in the E3 build. He said that issues will be worked out and fixed well before the game comes out. "During game development, a game is always in flux and depending on when you choose to look at game you can get a very different impression of it. E3 might not have been our finest hour, but the final game is all that counts." And just to let you know, their target framerate is "30 fps". He also confirmed rumors about the possibility of wiping out an entire room of enemies without ever touching the ground. He claims that "some of the game’s designers can stay hovering in the air indefinitely, providing there are enough enemies around them. I haven’t gotten there yet, but it is definitely possible." And he also mentioned that Marketplace demos have great possibilities and they would like to do one before the game comes out, so you guys better watch out for that. Also, according to him, for now, they have no plans of supporting the upcoming Xbox Live Vision camera. Too Human will also take full advantage of Xbox Live as Silicon Knights "plan on doing achievements with both these ideas and much more actually." He also added that the current DVD-9 medium is not holding them back and the current disc size is much larger then what developers had with Cube. More details will come up about the game "the next time we feel the game is ready to show."

The one game for the Xbox 360 that didn't have achievements, Final Fantasy XI, finally receives its own set of points to add to your gamerscore. The game has 32 secret achievements that add up to the usual retail 1000 gamerpoints. The update for the game today unlocked the ability to get the achievements and now when your playing FF:XI it will no longer say playing PlayOnline Viewer. According to PlayOnline: After fulfilling certain requirements, players will be able to speak with title-changing NPCs to unlock Xbox 360 “achievements.” In the case where players have no titles available to change, they will be unable to unlock any achievements. So, if your one of the many people playing Final Fantasy XI on the 360 you try to be one of the first to find out what the secret achievements are (maybe it's for raising a chocobo?). On a side note from the update the game is now compatible with 1024x768 screen resolution. |

As usual, where there is a dilemma there's some folk who are bound to go find out for themselves. In this case it's the team at Gamespot. They decided to put the two Prey versions to test to see which is the predator and which is the prey. According to the team, PC-based games are traditionally superior to consoles especially for the FPS genre. Mainly because the mouse-and-keyboard standard presents better control than a gamepad plus PC graphics outclass the consoles'. The arrival of the Xbox 360 is changing all that by giving the PC a run for its money. See what we mean by new technology making things more complicated? To make things less complicated, here are the GameSpot score card for the two species of Prey. Prey (Xbox 360) The Good:

Last September Microsoft CEO Robert Batch predicted that around 50 percent of all Xbox 360 owners would go online, in a prediction to improve the 10 percent of original Xbox owners that took their consoles online using the Xbox Live service. Figures released yesterday by Microsoft show that not only have Batch's predictions been met, they've even been exceeded. Microsoft has managed to get 60 percent of Xbox 360 owners across the world hooked up and using Xbox Live, according to Xbox Live group marketing manager Aaron Greenberg. The company's free Xbox Live Silver service is expected to have attracted most customers to hook up their 360 to the Internet. Although it does not allow online gameplay, players can still post achievements and download demos. The spread of high-speed broadband access has also had an effect on the number of 360's connected to the internet. Greenberg said "Logic says it will come down at some point, but the fact that it's continuing to grow and we have the majority of our users connected online has really changed the gaming experience this generation." |

Real Time World's Crackdown for the Xbox 360 is scheduled to come out this fall, and it is only natural for people to talk about it. The game has been receiving unfair comparisons with GTA because at first glance, both games have a lot of parallelisms with each other -- both are set in a fictional city, you can drive whatever you can get your hands on, and you can shoot at anything and anyone. But, from there on, these two are poles apart. If you got used to being the troublemaker during your stint with GTA, you might need to get a little used to the fact that when you play Crackdown, you'll be the good guy -- a cop who'll shoulder the gargantuan task of cleaning up the streets. Also, every good deed of yours is aptly rewarded -- your character will evolve and be more powerful, plus you get rewards and achievements which is a feather in your character's cap. We have given you some of the game's screens, some info about it, and interviews from the game's developer himself, David Jones. Now, we present to you Crackdown's packshot. |
