Xbox 360 - Image 1

It's always nice to find out what your fellow gamers are playing the most over at Xbox Live, and courtesy of Major Nelson, we give you the opportunity to do exactly that in this week's chart of Live Activity for the week of 7/30. Let's take a gander at the top spots before working our way down the other contenders, shall we?

For Microsoft's next-gen console, we have Gears of War taking the Number 1 spot this week, with other greats such as Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Vegas and Guitar Hero II following closely behind. For top Xbox Live Arcade titles - the full versions, mind you - Bomberman Live is at the top of the heap, Spyglass Board Games as second and Halo's grandpappy, Marathon: Durandal coming up in third. And finally, for Original Xbox Live games, Halo 2 rules supreme over classics like Battlefield 2 and Star Wars: Battlefront 2.

One thing to note here is that Halo 2 is still going strong - understatement of the year, perhaps, as the short-lived Halo 3 Beta test really got armchair Spartans back into a Covenant-wasting mood, as well as get some quality time with its predecessor Marathon: Durandal. Certainly good news that the popularity of a contemporary game gives attention to titles almost forgotten by time.

In any case, here's the complete list, for your viewing pleasure. Enjoy!

Xbox 360 Top Live Titles
  1. Gears of War
  2. Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Vegas
  3. Guitar Hero II
  4. Forza Motorsport 2
  5. Call Of Duty 3
  6. Bomberman LIVE
  7. Oblivion
  8. NCAA 08
  9. GRAW 2
  10. Saints Row
The complete list after the jump!

Enemy Territory: Quake Wars screenshots from Beta - Image 1

After seeing that slaughter gameplay montage for Enemy Territory: Quake Wars (PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC), we're sure you're left wanting more. You're in luck as we have uncovered eye candy for you, courtesy of WorthPlaying.

Activision and Splash Damage's Enemy Territory: Quake Wars is currently undergoing a public beta test and even if you've been gathering moss under that rock, you can still get a beta key. Anyway, the batch of screenshots we have today are from the beta but they still look pretty, though not as pretty as some players would have liked. In the screens, we see some of the maps that we'll be brawling in when this FPS title comes out.

We also get a peek at the lobby where players can choose which side they'll fight as (Strogg or GDF), and what unit they choose to be. We also see a spectator button smack in the middle of the two factions' icons which will be nifty if you want to check out your next opponents.

Anyway, enough babble from us. We'll keep you updated on more news regarding Enemy Territory: Quake Wars as they happen. In the meantime, check out the screenshots.

The Halo 3 Beta has ended, the countdown begins - Image 1

With the end of the Halo 3 Beta, a lot of players have reportedly gone into withdrawal. There have been reports of players screaming for their assault rifles in the middle of the night. If you find yourself experiencing the same symptoms, worry not and look to the future, the end of the Beta is the beginning of the countdown to the full version of the game.

The Halo 3 Beta posted some amazing figures in the short (arguably very short) time that it was available. There were a total of 820,000 unique participants who logged in a whopping 12 million hours of online gameplay. To give you guys an idea of how much time that is, it's roughly the equivalent of 1,400 years of continuous play by one person. Another thing of note is the amount of saved game footage from the beta which was said to be at 580,000 films, that's about 2.7 terabytes of data.

Obviously both Microsoft and Bungie are happy with the results of this trial run. The corporate vice-president of Microsoft Game Studios Shane Kim gave a few words on the numbers posted and the support the community gave to the Beta test.

The participation in the Halo 3 beta was staggering. Witnessing such a great reaction to a small portion of the game has been inspiring. It’s a testament to the fervor and anticipation that surrounds Halo 3. We’re confident that on Sept. 25 Halo 3 will drive an unprecedented wave of new gamers to the Xbox 360 platform and Xbox LIVE.

The beta is behind us now, and the Halo community mourns its loss...ok, enough mourning. We eagerly await the full release of the game. We wantsss it, our precioussss... Be sure to keep checking back here for more updates on Halo 3.

The Halo 3 beta test code has been scanned by some very resourceful individuals and guess what they claim to have found - the names of a dozen multiplayer maps for the actual game! Normally, we'd call this one a straight-up rumor, but some game magazines did mention maps like Shrine and Warthog Inc., and those maps are here indeed. We thought you might be intrigued, so here's the list:

  • Halo 3 - Image 1Chill - Halo 3 Chill
  • Construct - Halo 3 Construct
  • Cyberdyne - Halo 3 Cyberdyne
  • High Ground - A relic of older conflicts, this base was reactivated after the New Mombasa Slipspace Event
  • Guardian - Halo 3 Guardian
  • Isolation - Halo 3 Isolation
  • Valhalla - The crew of V-398 barely survived their unplanned landing in this curious gorge
  • Epitaph - Some believe the Forerunners preferred desolate places. Others suggest that few other sites survived the Flood
  • Shrine - Halo 3 Shrine
  • Snowbound - Hostile conditions did not prevent the Covenant from seeking salvage on this buried Forerunner construct
  • Warthog Inc - Halo 3 Warthog Inc
  • Last Resort - Remote industrial sites like this one are routinely requisitioned and razed as part of Spartan training exercises
There you have them! Too bad most of these don't have real descriptions. We'll let you decide what you want to believe on this issue. Rest assured that we'll give you an update regarding the matter as soon as possible.
