Capcom: Bionic Commando just the start, more coming this week - Image 1It was revealed a couple of days ago that one of Capcom's bombshells is actually the return of Bionic Commando on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC. We say "one" because it was announced today by the legendary video game development studio that more are dropping in this week.

"You saw one announcement today... You will see another announcement at the countdown timer on Wednesday. You'll see a slew of other announcements/updates after the media embargo lifts on Thursday, Friday or so", promised Capcom's Director of Strategic Planning and Research Christian Svensson.

Aside from major graphical overhaul, the next-gen Bionic Commando will also feature a lot of gameplay mechanic revamps and a new storyline. If that announcement made your day, we suggest checking back here at QJ.NET to hear about the other announcements in the coming days.

Fans are speculating that due to the recent success of Resident Evil, Capcom may be on its way to developing a Resident Evil title for the PlayStation Portable. Given the return of Bionic Commando, however, you can never really be sure what exciting things are up Capcom's sleeves.

Capcop to make We learned about Capcom's tentative Tokyo Game Show 07 line up the following day and as far as we can tell, the list didn't include the three big announcements promised by the legendary development studio.

It's a good thing though that Senior Director of Strategic Planning and Research Christian Svensson gave a little clarification on the matter. Speaking to fans over at the official forums Capcom Unity, Svensson said that the tentative line up is pretty much it for them at TGS 07 with the addition of We Love Golf.

It was just recently announced that the simulation game will be released in North America in 2008 with the help of developer Camelot Software. Svensson also said:

I think I know most things that are being shown at TGS. Most of our biggest announcements are being held for a Capcom event we'll be holding in a few weeks in London. It's there that some heads might explode.

The official wouldn't divulge anything further but said that the dates are already set.

Capcom - Image 1April 12 is a few winks away and hopefully, Capcom and Christian Svensson will fulfill their promise of a game-related announcement. For now, we would have to make do with other Capcom announcements. Checking out German gaming site, Gamefront, we managed to find a PAL schedule of Capcom game releases. Here are the titles that our European friends could expect.
So there. For now, we'll have to make do with this tidbit. Here's to hoping that Capcom will throw us a good chunk of news come the Capcom Gamer's Day Event happening on April 12.

Capcom logo - Image 1A couple of hours ago, Christian Svensson (a.k.a. Sven) over at the Capcom official boards made a statement in light of Capcom's move to turn Devil May Cry 4 into a multi-platform game.

Sven said that the company felt that allowing DMC4 to be reached by more people outside the PlayStation 3 (PS3) "pleases far more people than it displeases," and that the decision was made in the best interest of Capcom and the players.

And while this statement is still drawing all sorts of reactions like the recent online petition, Capcom forum member Westell Westell quizzed Sven to help clarify matters regarding the company's plans:

What I am wondering, is since Capcom has claimed "Capcom is committed to making its titles available to as wide an audience as possible," does that mean Capcom will be making games that were exclusive to the Xbox 360 cross platform as they did with Devil May Cry or is that quote from Capcom more of just a PR man doing their job? Thanks.

Here was Sven's reply:

The answer is Dead Rising and Lost Planet are not slated to appear on Wii or PS3 as far as current plans go. The reasons for this are quite convoluted and I'm bound by NDAs on these matters so I can't divulge why this is the situation.

The quote delivered above references our strategy moving forward, not something that is necessarily retroactive. You can see evidence of this with our previously stated RE5 plans going to 360 and PS3 simultaneously.

While (PS3) and Wii owners may feel a sting in Sven's statement that there is no planned releases of Lost Planet or Dead Rising for their consoles, the "current plans" clause does open up speculation on what lies in the near future. For now, just await further details at the upcoming Capcom Day this April 12.

Capcom - Image 1Must have been a holiday celebrating some odd conquest by Mega Man. Anyway, we were fishing through web forums, and happened upon the Capcom BBS. Here, Sr. Director of Strategic Planning and Research Christian Svensson confirms that this year's Capcom Day is on April 12.

That's not the only thing. Someone on the BBS inquired if Resident Evil 5 (PS3, Xbox 360) and Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles would feature in this Capcom Day. Well, Svensson took the standard press Mega Blaster to the question by neither confirming nor denying:

You may be slightly pleased and slightly disappointed then. I also suspect something not within either one of those parameters to be announced that will excite you though.

Well, he is "The official 'I wish I could tell you more, but then I'd have to kill you (TM)' guy" on the BBS. Let's break down his answer shall we?
  • "You may be slightly pleased and slightly disappointed..." - meaning that there will be something either RE5 or Umbrella-related. Coin toss says it's probably Umbrella, since it's been in the pipeline longer, but no one wants to count RE5 out.
  • "also suspect something not within either one of those parameters..." - so it's not either RE5 or Umbrella-related? There was that news bit about Capcom announcing more Wii titles soon. So, which Capcom IP would it be, if not an entirely new one?
    • On the other hand, does it have to be just the Wii? Svensson didn't mention any specifics.
Can't we just hog-tie the guy and feed him truth serum through a nasal tube, maybe he'll finally spill something?

DMC4: Sony May Cry - Image 1

Sometime last week, Capcom has confirmed the long-time rumor which has been going around, saying that the supposed Sony exclusive Devil May Cry 4 was going multiplatform. This was of course followed by a lot of varied reactions and even some Dante-must-stay-with-Sony movements which resulted in an online petition to keep the franchise exclusive.

Well, with all the clamor that we have been hearing from fans, someone from Capcom has finally braved the hordes, and spoke about the company's stand in this decision. That brave man was no other than Christian Svensson, Capcom's senior Director of Strategic Planning & Research. His brief statement is as follows:

We are certainly moved that people are so passionate about our products that they would go to such extremes. At the same time we feel that allowing more people access to our content pleases far more people than it displeases (after all, we're not denying DMC4 to anyone that was already going to get it). It really is the best decision for the company and for consumers.

Even though some fans may be upset at this development, the man does seem to have a point. After all, moving a title onto another platform may not be so bad, and it doesn't lessen the fact that Devil May Cry 4 will be, as its predecessors were, a cool and fun game. Besides, weren't games created to allow people to have fun in the first place? Anyway, what's done is done, and all that we can do now is wait for the game to actually come out and see if it can live up to the expectations of the masses.
