Headplay with the Xbox 360 - Image 1

With the release of Halo 3 we thought it was the perfect time to review our Headplay device on the Xbox 360. Our first review of Headplay covered the basics of the device: what it is and what it does. Now it's time to see how it holds up to par with the consoles, starting with the Xbox 360.

Although it's not the ultimate visual display, there are obvious advantages to playing the Xbox 360 with the TV directly attached to your head. With Headplay, the difference is like playing on a hi-def 62-inch flat screen TV versus playing on a projected image on a movie screen. It's not exactly better, but it has its own charms.

Xbox 360 mod: HDMI and Digital Optical sound on Premium - Image 1Gamer Chad Ledford believes that there are many like him who purchased the Xbox 360 Premium instead of the Elite because of financial constraints.

However, Ledford argues over at his personal website that this shouldn't prevent Premium owners from having HDMI and Digital Optical surround sound experience.

First and foremost, you have to take note that you cannot have both the HDMI and AV component cables plugged in at the same time.

The reason for this is that because the slots are so close to one another, not to mention the fact that the component cables are rather thick. Chad Ledford proposes this simple trick:
  • First, purchase an HDMI cable for less than US$ 10
  • Second, remove the plastic casing from the standard A/V cable. I did this by wedging a knife between the slit in the plastic casing and separating the two sides.
  • Simple solution - cheap fix.
If you want to know more, you can refer to the Read link below. It should take you to Ledford's article on this simple mod.

Halo 3 special edition Xbox 360 - Image 1Those who are awaiting the Halo 3 Xbox 360 SKU can now have a date to mark on their calendars: September 16.

The Halo 3 Special Edition Xbox 360 console will be priced at US$ 399, and will include a wireless controller and wired headset of the same military green hue, a Play and Charge kit, component cables, and downloadable Halo 3 themes. The Halo 360 will also have HDMI support.

While our previous article on the Halo 360 only shows a military green-colored Xbox, the recent picture that we have right here shows off the cool etchings on this particular Xbox 360 SKU. Think it's cool enough to buy? Better make your mind soon before its September 16 release date.
