Duke Nukem - Image 1There's some good news for Xbox 360 fans out there who grew up playing the Duke Nukem series and have been missing it since the last iteration. The most popular member of the franchise may be coming soon to Xbox Live Arcade.

Developer 3D Realms, who created the franchise, confirmed that they're currently talking to Microsoft about the project which will have Duke Nukem 3D ported to the Xbox Live Arcade.

"Truth be told, we've talked to Microsoft about it and have some people that would port it," says George Broussard of 3D Realms. "Just waiting on the good word from Microsoft to continue."

The idea of getting to play this classic on Xbox Live Arcade is a prospect worth placing a close eye on. That notorious Duke attitude never gets old, and it's bound to be a hit on the online service. We'll keep you updated on this one. Still no news on Duke Nukem Forever, by the way.

Prey

The answer is a whole lot. George Broussard of 3DRealm's first has posted in Prey's community chat forum that Humanhead and Venom are both currently working on a patch for their own platforms, dealing with various bug and crash fixes, but mostly multiplayer exploits and lag issues. The PC patch is already being tested and could possibly be released soon.

Downloadable content for both platforms will include four new maps and six new characters. The list of changes from HumanHead is provided below.

Here is the (not final) list of changes:
  • Fixed a crash at startup on some machines
  • Fixed an occasional crash on the dedicated server
  • Fixed a crash when using image_usecache cvar with very big textures. Textures whose lowest mip map doesn't fit will be default texture.
  • This was causing a crash when a modified prey was loading "Mother's Embrace".
  • Fixed a crash on some machines when reading savegames.
  • Some time demo features not appearing if you restart between record/playback
  • Added widescreen resolutions to menus
  • Updated multiplayer browser to fix servers not showing up due to DNS resolution
  • Updated multiplayer browser not keeping join button up to date when server summary wasn't the active tab.
  • Updated multiplayer browser so punkbuster icons show up in their column properly
  • Updated multiplayer browser so mod games' icons show up properly
  • Updated multiplayer browser so server scanning is more consistent on slower connections
  • Fixed multiplayer weapon exploit
Six new player characters:
  • Four female characters: Jen, Elhuit, Mother, and Becky (the blond victim you see occasionally on slabs in the single player Prey)
  • Two Hunter characters: Hunter and Elite Hunter

PreyYesterday, the official boxart for the FPS title Prey has been revealed. Now I'm pretty sure this had one effect on all Prey enthusiasts out there: a heightened anticipation for the Prey demo that is supposed to have been available in the Marketplace last night. Unfortunately, the Prey demo is not yet available.

Word has it that the Xbox 360 demo is still in testing at Microsoft. For all of you who've been counting the sweet days to that moment when they can finally test the game, there's still no official word as to when the demo will really come out. 3D Realms President George Broussard says:

"I'm still waiting for specifics, but I'm being told that it's still in testing at Microsoft. From what I understand this isn't Microsoft's fault, and is more likely just an issue of timing. I'm hesitant to give any estimates for a release, but I've been told it should be reasonably soon after the PC release, but could be as long as a few days. We will post an update as soon as we have more solid information."

However, if you're really excited to try out the gravity-defying feature that will allow you to let your character - Tommy, the garage mechanic - walk on ceilings, then you can try out the demo of the PC version, which is already out for grabs. If you meet the following minimum requirements, then go ahead and click the download link below to at least ease your longing for this Human Head Studios/3D Realms/2K Games title:
  • Intel Pentium 4 2.0Ghz or AMD Athlon XP 2000+ processor
  • 512MB System RAM
  • 100% DirectX 9.0c compatible 64MB video card with latest manufacturer drivers
  • 8X CD-ROM (standard edition), DVD-ROM (Limited Collector's Edition)
  • 2.2GB of uncompressed free hard drive space
  • 100% DirectX 9.0c compatible 16-bit sound card
  • Microsoft Windows 2000 or XP with latest service pack installed
  • Mouse and keyboard
  • DirectX 9.0c (included)
