Osaka-based publisher Capcom has released its financial report card for 2007's third fiscal quarter. While a lot of people expected a surge in correlation with the holiday rush, what we saw was a mixed bag at best. Devil May Cry 4 (PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, PC) and Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles enjoyed good sales, but other titles weren't so lucky. Full details after the jump. |

Big movies
sell games. They may not necessarily be good games, but they sell. Some
have chosen to avoid the genre altogether, choosing to stop buying
video games based on movies. It spares them of potential heartache, but there are always exceptions to the rule.Which of course begs the question: What movies have come and gone without getting themselves a video game? |

Yet another EA Sports game is about to hit the shelves. Before your woods get hot for that tee shot, we've got a video found on Gametrailers that takes an in-depth look at some of the new mechanics Tiger Woods PGA Tour '08 (PS3, Xbox 360, PC) will be introducing.
New to the franchise is the grid line feature when putting, something we've seen from other golf games like Pangya. Another worthy addition that looks very promising is the Player Confidence system. All your shots will be recorded, and your future performance will be affected by your previous attempts. If you've been nailing the green from a certain place on the hole, your player will be more confident in taking shots from there. Before you drool too much, here's producer Mike Cayado walking us through what to expect from the latest Tiger Woods PGA Tour title: |

Championship Gaming Series

Gamers turning pro aren't rare anymore, and guys spending lots of time to improve their game are more cool than geeky nowadays. If StarCraft is almost South Korea's national sport, it's not impossible for other countries to realize that video games can be good spectator sports. UK broadcasting company took notice, and will now feature the Championship Gaming Series on TV.Big tourneys have been on TV before, sure. What makes CGS a lot more epic is how the top 20 players will walk away as pro-gamers earning bread by playing games. Still not exciting enough? "Pro-gaming has reached a level of maturity and reach that makes it a natural fit with Sky's entertainment business," said Adrian Pilkington, director of Enhanced TV and Games for Sky. In other words, CGS aims to capture not only current gamers, but also intrigue others that aren't into gaming yet. Skeptics would say it's not fun when you're not playing, but Pilkington has something in mind. He told GamePro in an interview: People will watch CGS for the same reasons that sports fans like
watching football or golf - because they want to watch the best players
make the best plays. Pro-gamers have incredible hand-eye
coordination that you wouldn't believe unless you see it. It's
important too that viewers get to know the players and their
personalities, so we'll be following the gamers outside of the games as
part of each show. Sounds like American Idol, much? Apparently not, because no reality show can beat massive competitions on TV where we can see the best plays in FIFA, Dead or Alive, Project Gotham Racing, and even the classic Counter-Strike. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem like PS3 games are on, while the Wii is still under consideration. "The online qualifications have been open to anyone with an Xbox or PC," Pilkington continued. |

If you've been playing The Darkness, you'll probably be wanting to unlock every little thing in the game. If that's the case, here's a little tidbit you may not have heard yet.Apparently, you can dress up your Berserker Darkling in a Golf get-up. Dress him up and explain to your friends why your Darkling has anger issues, he was beaten by Tiger Woods or something like that. Anyway, to get the costume, dial the phone number 555-5664 on a phone in-game and watch the hilarity begin. So there you have it, a new tip that should make playing the game more fun, which I honestly thought was impossible after trying the game out a bit. I wonder if there are any other phone numbers that would unlock stuff in the game? Hopefully, there are even more unlockable costumes like a football helmet for a darkling, or even a silver jumpsuit like Mini-me. |

While the Nintendo Wii console is holding its own in current sales, we can't help but imagine what the future holds for Sony's PlayStation 3, at least according to Weekly Famitsu's "Most Wanted List" from April 27 to May 10. Their latest survey holds at least four PS3 titles in the top post, which includes must-haves like Final Fantasy XIII, Biohazard 5 (aka Resident Evil), and Metal Gear Solid 4. Wii games in the list include Dragon Quest, Super Smash Brothers Brawl, and Super Mario Galaxy. The Xbox 360 gets a reprieve this time around in the duet of Lost Odyssey and Trusty Bell: Chopin no Yume (aka Eternal Sonata). The latter title is reportedly carrying several high-profile seiyuus (voice actors/actresses) in its cast, including Aya Hirano (Konata Izumi, "Lucky Star"; Haruhi Suzumiya, "The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya") and Mitsuaki Madono (Sorata Arisugawa, "X-TV"; Loki, "Valkyrie Profile"). Most of us know Microsoft's big bad title, Gears of War. While we're not getting a sequel yet, Epic Games revealed that they're working on a spin-off. Marcus Fenix ain't taking a gun this time, he'll be taking the mustached plumber's lead and have a golf game of his own. Yes, Epic boss Mark Rein confirmed that it's gonna be Gears of War Golf.Epic went through all the trouble to hear from a Korean publisher about making casual games using Unreal Engine 3, and the results sound good. Rein says "So we got an animator to make a golf swing for Marcus Fenix, and then a programmer took one of the Gears levels and added some mounds and stuff to make a course." GoW's grenade launching mechanic was used for the ball, so let's all hope it reaches the hole safely. Unfortunately, the project is said to be internal for Epic Games so we won't be seeing the game's launch any time soon. Good things come to those who wait, and Gears of War Golf might be a promising title worth waiting for. |
