We're bringing in a quick update for Midway Games' Stranglehold title, in case you're wondering how development's going. The company has sent out a press wire announcing that Stranglehold's Xbox 360 version has now gone gold, and should be ready for shipping come the game's release this September 5. Stranglehold's PC release is further dated for September 18, with the PlayStation 3 version to follow on September 25. Stranglehold's European release is further announced to be on September 14 for the Xbox 360, September 21 for the PC, and October for the PlayStation 3. You may want to re-adjust your calendar prior to our last release date announcement. Of course, it you don't fancy the wait, there's always the game's demo up for grabs over on Xbox Live. There's also plenty of videos here to bide the time, starring Chow Yun Fat, the mean streets of Hong Kong, and (of course) pigeons. Buy: [Stranglehold (Xbox 360)] Buy: [Stranglehold (PS3)] Buy: [Stranglehold (Windows XP)] |

Did Sierra Gamer's Week '07 get you wet yet? If not, be ready to cream your pants (so to speak) due to their latest installment, Wet (Xbox 360, PS3). Don't let the title give you any ideas, because this game is a solid third-person shooter with a good mix of sword swinging action. Find its first trailer below.
Info on the game is slippery, but we do know that the girl in the bathtub is named Rubi. We see a lot of her crazy moves, which you can find on the first high-budget Asian action film you can think of. Our well endowed babe is a gunslinger who can do fancy kills with a katana. Wet seems to be set in Mexico, but with a twist of Hong Kong flicks. Prepare to get wet and wild! Here's the video: |

Got Milk? It seems the Xbox 360 is being saturated with all kinds of faceplates. A new - and perhaps slightly offbeat for the video game track - faceplate has become available for a limited amount of time. Introducintg the Milk Edition faceplate, which is based on Hong Kong's Milk Magazine.
Now, when we say limited amount of time, we mean it. There are only two units available in the whole wide world and they are both being sold in an online Yahoo auction that will end at noon of August 9. The asking price is now up to HKD 7,544 (about US$ 936). Proceeds will go to the World Wildlife Foundation. The model is a sleek black that celebrates the sixth anniversary of the magazine, with its logo non-too-subtly yet elegantly printed on the side. |

Midway is pulling out all the stops on the upcoming movie-based game, Stranglehold. A lot of you guys are probably fired up over blockbuster names John Woo and Chow Yun-Fat. More than that, the game is to use Unreal Engine 3.0 and will implement Massive D physics, thus promising some intense action in your hands.
All the bells and whistles from an action movie will be there (it's based off of Woo's "Hard Boiled"), created by authentic guys who actually dish out Hong Kong flicks. The ultimate director, John Woo, is strongly tied up to the production of the game. Chow Yun-Fat's gonna be the star to make sure players feel they're bad ass. Take a glimpse of what's going down their studios through this "Making of Stranglehold" video. |

Now when LucasArts thought they had one fixer-upper to leverage their terra-forming shooter, Fracture, they probably didn't see this one coming. Midway's take on John Woo's classic "Hard Boiled", Stranglehold, features Massive D (D for Destruction) that allows the player to not only wear away the enemy's cover with bullets, but also take them out with falling objects from above.
In the IGN blogs for Stranglehold, senior game designer Patrick Curry described their attempts to litter levels with so many of these "gags," so players will be able to experience total Woo-esque action that only a game sporting a Havok physics engine could deliver. Since the game's revelation at E3, they've started work on the Hong Kong Marketplace, and their ideas started from their design of that map. Curry explains in general detail: The first thing we did was make all of the neon store signs hanging in the Market destructible, so when you shoot them they’ll crush anyone below. Then we did the same to air conditioners, precariously hanging out of windows. And then we got crazy and using our Havok goodness, made signs that swing and take out multiple enemies at once. It was a really fun time in our project, getting to try out all the new tech toys we’d made, and see the fruits of our labor in the form of crazy enemy deaths. Now they've gone all out, taking turns in designing their own nifty traps within levels to give any player enough options for solving the enemy swarm problem - not that they're much of a problem anyway. Some of the designers, in fact, have become quite adept at designing hidden "gags" that they've become masters at it. "A couple of our designers have become masters of gags, and when we need something totally over the top and Woo-esque, we bring them in and let them go nuts. It’s totally amazing what they’ve come up with!" blogged Curry. When you do pick up this game for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC, expect to send baddies flying from gas leak explosions, bowling down pachinko machines and squished flat like the critters they are. |

After running for 21 years, the King of Fighters franchise has definitely racked up a huge fanbase. About 30 arcade games and a bunch of handheld/console ports have already passed, and this cross-media adaptation is almost inevitable for a famous martial arts fighting franchise.A live-action movie of King of Fighters is in the works, and it's not gonna be from Hollywood (probably a good thing...). The movie will be directed by Gordon Chan, a guy from Hong Kong who spawned other Asian martial arts flicks like "The Medallion" (Jackie Chan) and "Fist of Fury" (Jet Li). Axis Entertainment's Joseph Chou ("Appleseed: Ex Machina") and Convergence Entertainment's Tim Kwok ("Wicked City") will handle the production, while Chris Chow will be doing the screenplay. The KoF live-action movie will see the light in Asia early 2008, while no plans for a western release announced as of now. Don't worry though, it's gonna be in English with authentic martial arts action. |

Heavy weapon costs heavy cash. Or in the case of Xbox Live content, Microsoft Points. But if you're shelling out big bucks for big guns that will ultimately save your life and many others', then 800 Microsoft Points ain't all that bad. That's right. For that cost, you can buy your Heavy Weapon now over at Xbox Live. Okay, so this tank shooter from PopCap may be cartoonish. But who ever said cartoonish things can't do serious business? And freedom and defense against destructive power ain't no light task at all. Anyway, this is basically available in all territories EXCEPT for Hong Kong, Singapore and Taiwan. But for all the rest of you guys, the coast is clear. |

The Pro Evolution Soccer 6 demo from Konami would have been nice before the game shipped in Europe. At the same time, the demo would have been even nicer if it was also released to the territories of Canada, Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, Mexico, Singapore, Taiwan and/or the United States since soccer isn't just a European passion, you know (even in territories that focus more on football or baseball rather than soccer). Just like the Saint's Row Ho-Ho-Ho pack, Gold members will find this demo immediately on their Marketplaces. Silver members must wait patiently until the 29th of this month to access the demo, says Major Nelson in his blog. And with a potential January 2007 U.S. release date for PES6, we're just hoping the demo is released some time before the game. Hey, we'd like our demos, too. |

Many have speculated that the Wii's advent to the gaming realm has sparked a revolution in gaming (pun unintended), as it has pushed developers to think of more innovative features to games (such as substituting a Wiimote for a baseball bat or something).Sure, it has opened lots of possibilities for gamers, which is quite exciting really. Now, computer hardware company Hewlett-Packard is setting its sights on gaming as well, and it seems that they're upping the ante on gaming innovation further. HP VP Philip McKinney recently showed an intriguing video at a "major telco con in Hong Kong" that features kids playing a scavenger hunt using handhelds and "racing along alleyways and backstreets of the real world collecting clues posted on walls and other places to find the prize." And it's all thanks to a nifty open-source platform called Mediascape, something that HP programmers have been working on. Whether we'll see this technology in the near future, we're not really sure. But it's exciting to know that devs are exploring new horizons in gaming. |
