Kane & Lynch: Dead Men - Image 1There are a lot of things that could go wrong in a bank heist, and in Eidos Interactive and IO Interactive's Kane & Lynch: Dead Men for the PC, Sony PlayStation 3, and Microsoft Xbox 360, it's getting stabbed - or shot - in the back that you have to really worry about. Of course, they can't do that to you if you do it to them first, and it's in this video update of the game from IO Interactive that we get a taste of how it's going to be like. It's cooperative-turned-cutthroat play at its finest.

IO Interactive has just revealed who will be behind the musical score of their upcoming title Kane & Lynch: Dead Men for the Sony PlayStation 3, Microsoft Xbox 360 and the PC. It's none other than British Academy Award-winning composer Jesper Kyd who has etched his reputation on the cacophonous atmosphere of the Hitman franchise.

Kyd's work on Hitman Contracts won Best Original Music at the BAFTA Games Awards and his stylish symphonic hybrid score for Hitman: Blood Money was awarded Best Original Score by IGN. He was also nominated for Best Original Video Game Score at the MTV Video Music Awards and has received Special Achievements awards from other major game publications such as Gamespot.

Kyd's work on Kane & Lynch: Dead Men's musical score is described by IO Interactive as "dark and foreboding", but at the same time "graphic and unforgiving," as the game's theme would suggest.

Kane & Lynch: Dead Men's storyline revolves around an unlikely partnership between two very different game protagonists. Together, Kane and Lynch must use their unique skill sets to form a cohesive tandem in a fight that leads them to a path of redemption and revenge. Kane & Lynch: Dead Men is set for release in November of 2007.

More info about the game that lets players double-cross each other in a frantic race for the cash, Kane & Lynch: Dead Men (Xbox 360, PS3, PC), in this insider video that takes us inside the developers' offices. We also get an insight as to just who Kane and Lynch really are, and what drives the two men to live a life of crime.

In this video, the guys over at IO Interactive fill us in on the creative process, as well as how Lynch went from a mere bystander in the game into a full-blown character. We also get to see a heist in progress, with the players shooting it out with the police as they try to escape with the cash - and it's definitely a different take on the multiplayer shooter scene.

Kane & Lynch: Dead Men definitely brings something new to the table, and we can't wait to get our hands on a copy. After all, a bank heist definitely sounds a bit more exciting than going around a map and killing other players randomly. Enjoy the video!

Kane & Lynch: Dead Men - Image 1Eidos apparently believes that Kane & Lynch: Dead Men has the potential to replicate the success of Hitman. According to MCV UK, SCi CEO Jane Cavanagh revealed even though the game hasn't been released yet, a sequel is already in production.

"We've already got Kane & Lynch 2 in production, which just goes to show the belief we have in it as a long-term franchise", Cavanagh said. Kane & Lynch: Dead Men (PS3, Xbox 360, PC) is being developed by IO Interactive, the same studio behind the successful Hitman series.

Eidos is also reportedly pumping a lot of money behind the marketing drive for Kane and Lynch: Dead Men. According to reports from MCV, Eidos is dishing out more money into the game's marketing than it did for any game in the Tomb Raider series.

Kane & Lynch: Dead Men - Image 1Kane and Lynch may look like buddies, but they would also jump at each other in a heartbeat. That's what IO Interactive wants to make you think - in Kane & Lynch: Dead Men (Xbox 360, PS3, PC), partners in crime are not partners for long. Or at least, when playing the game's online multiplayer mode called "Fragile Alliance," you have to understand that a criminal's life is dog-eat-dog.

Lead game designer Kim Krogh told IGN in an interview that Fragile Alliance is more "about manipulative game play, where co-operative or competitive gaming is a means to an ends." According to him, it's survival of the fittest and only those who play like a criminal will survive.

Krogh further described Fragile Alliance as "a mode that puts you into violent criminal situations and rewards the double cross, like befriending someone… and then killing him." He called it satisfying when you can be as ruthless as possible, and we couldn't agree more.

If anything, it seems like Kane & Lynch's multiplayer mode is far from co-op, yet you have to work with others to succeed. Krogh explained:

Everyone knows going in that working together is the only way to get the job done. But only up to a point. Think like a criminal. They don't trust anyone. So the better players will find a way to take advantage of other players and situations. The more seamless the better. For example your headset and what you say is part of your arsenal.

With that said, Fragile Alliance promises online play to be more personal. It's not about joining a party and completing quests anymore; it's more of using others, then betraying them while watching your own back. Mind games become important, and we expect role-playing to some degree. Guys who get excited after hearing a girl's voice would have to put some extra care, especially when Kane & Lynch: Dead Men ships this November 23.
