Kaos Studios, in partnership with publisher THQ, is still hard at work on its upcoming non-linear first-person shooter Frontlines: Fuel of War for the Microsoft Xbox 360, Sony PlayStation 3, and Windows-based PCs. In a recent showing of Frontlines: Fuel of War, though, it was revealed that a demo for the Xbox 360 version of the the video game is slated this coming December.Kaos Studios main man Frank DeLise told TeamXbox that Xbox 360 owners could get their hands on a morsel of Frontlines: Fuel of War via the Xbox Live MarketPlace come December 2007, while the full version should hit store shelves in the first quarter of 2008. THQ confirmed DeLise's claim that there are indeed plans of launching a demo in December to showcase the kind of work that they've been pushing for in the last few months. Aside from non-linear freedom, it was also made known that 32-player online play will be available. As the title of the game suggests, Frontlines: Fuel of War's core mechanic is fighting for position and pushing the war's fronts in your favor. Gaining ground yields special bonuses such as items and weapons, so it's important to hold your opponents at bay to keep the tactical edge leaning in your favor. |

Not too far in the future, global natural resources will be on the
brink of depletion. As the world's economies and our way of life tumble into
chaos, the superpowers clash to gain control...
Great set-up, eh? That's pretty much the backdrop which Frontlines: Fuel of War (PS3, PC, and Xbox 360) is set against. Set in a fictional future "based upon the headlines of today," Frontlines: Fuel of War drops players right in the middle of the war between two superpowers. Players can either join the Western Coalition or the Red Star Alliance (yeah, the game's not too subtle with the names). What it all comes down to, though, is that joining either side will eventually boil down to killing everybody on the other side. Good thing you'll be gunning at your enemies with the firepower of over 60 next gen vehicles and weapons inspired by military designs for the near future in your steady hands. For a look at how Kaos Studios' Frontlines: Fuel of War is coming along (it's coming along nicely, in our opinion), check out the new screenshots below. More screenshots after the jump! |

At the recently held THQ Gamers Day Event, the GT staffers were able to catch up with the folks of Kaos Studios to talk up Frontlines: Fuel of War (PC, PS3, Xbox360), the upcoming multi-platform FPS that's currently cooking in their quarters. The Game Mechanics interview discusses how Frontlines is actually quite the genre mixer because it has RPG levelling-up elements like the more you use certain things, the more you rank up different abilities. It also has strategy elements as players will be able to take on various roles including the following: defensive, ground/air support, drone tech, counter measures, etc. The dev walkthrough vid lets us listen in as Dave Voypka, Design Director of the game, talks about the new weapons featured in the game, how the frontline combat system works in both the single and multiplayer modes, and even the frontline system in the UI. But don't take our word for it, just hit play and get the goods from the devs themselves. Enjoy! Watch the dev walkthrough vid after the jump! |

Kaos Studios' General Manager, Frank DeLise, sheds some light about the FFOW's title, gameplay, maps, and multiplayer gaming. The title is obviously politically motivated, as DeLise explains, "it’s the FUEL that drives us to the “Frontlines” of tomorrow to our next great “War.” Fuel has dual meanings, obviously from our dependency on Oil and is what Fuels a global war. Frontlines came from the game mechanic that allows us to be on the front of a battle...So Frontlines is the franchise name and Fuel of War is the beginning of the global war." He also believes that developing the game on the Unreal 3 Engine was a good choice since they plan on devoting their time on developing the gameplay and not on designing a game engine. When asked about the gameplay, he mentions that "in FFOW you are always chipping away at the battle and you can form new strategies as you go. For Multiplayer, I [DeLise] really want teamwork to matter. In FFOW, teamwork truly makes your team stronger. More than two people in a vehicle make vehicles much more powerful by target sharing and counter measures, the frontline only moves forward if you work as a team, so expect to see some really cool team based features using the latest military equipment." A game like FFOW would of course be incomplete without game maps. For now, DeLise divulged that they are planning to have tight infantry maps and large scale Tank/Air battle maps in both Single Player and Multiplayer. HDR support is definitely in the picture. |

We've already seen images from KAOS Studios' upcoming first person shooter Frontlines: Fuel of War, and yet we ask for more. KAOS is back to give us eight new screenshots showing off the powerful weapons and vehicles that can blow up an entire squadron to kingdom come.
Frontlines: Fuel of War centers on a near-future conflict between the Western Coalition and the Red Star Alliance based on energy crisis caused by worldwide fuel shortages. In the game, you play a soldier who is part of a fireteam. At the start of your mission, you can choose a basic weapon and a specific role in the team, such as recon or assault. As the game progresses, you'll be able to advance in rank, which allows you to unlock new abilities for your role. Frontlines: Fuel of War is not just another Battlefield. It will offer considerable variety that will distinguish itself from other war-inspired games. It'll present a compelling non-linear single-player experience that's sure to keep you locked up in your room until you claim the final victory.
