Now don't go thinking this is another one of those depressing economic news - it's not. It's just your average depressing video game convention news, like E3. A press release just went out announcing that this year's Leipzig Games Convention has been canceled, but they will be holding a new event in its place called Games Convention Online.

So. What does the final TGS attendance tally read? Why... it's over nine thousaaaand!!! Oh, hell yeah, it's way over nine thousand indeed. CESA, the guys who organized the event, released the final number of attendees for this year's Tokyo Game Show. Compared to last year, TGS 2008 has gotten about a thousand more attendees, thus setting a new record for highest turnout in TGS history.

Although Sony's contender in this generation of consoles had a rocky start, the PlayStation 3 has been picking up some traction lately. Has it finally picked up its much needed momentum? Chris Redfield will be gunning down zombies in Resident Evil 5 with style! Rawr! It's just been confirmed by RE5 producer Jun Takeuchi that the game will indeed be heading for the TGS this year, and that they will be showing RE5's new and improved control system that could possibly set the fifth installment apart from its previous successors' stop-aim-shoot combat system. If some high-profile games like GTA4 have exclusive DLC on XBL, it shouldn't come as a surprise these days that other multiplatform games might go the same route: exclusive content for one console or other. Today we get word that the PS3 version of Mirror's Edge will be getting exclusive downloadable content via PSN. While this may be the case, it doesn't automatically rule out that other forms of exclusive content could also eventually arrive for the Xbox 360 and PC versions of the FPS game. Leipzig's over and the Tokyo Game Show won't be till October. But that doesn't mean there won't be any other conferences around to satisfy ever-curious gamers' appetites. And this time, we won't even have to fly overseas. The Austin Game Developers Conferences is coming up next, and they've added in a nice touch to this year's event.

This year's Games Convention at Leipzig was a sure fire success. And though some of you might not think that the same could be said about E3, GC 2009 has already been scheduled. Via press release, we find out that this year's event has set records above and beyond what GC 2007 had, and reception from the masses has definitely shown a good sign that the video games industry is booming more than it used to.

While preemption is the best cure, it's good to know that there's always remedy to fall back on to make up for that lack of preemption. In the case of Alone in the Dark's (PC, Xbox 360, PS3 and Wii) developers, that's what they're doing with the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions. Finding the Xbox 360 version problematic, they improved the PS3 version; and finding that the PS3 version is now way better than the 360 one, they're patching the latter to keep up with the new and improved PS3 version.
