The Major League Gaming logo - Image 1The console gaming scene looks to be heating up this April, as we pick up word of the plans for this year's Major League Gaming (MLG) tour. The event will be labelled the Boost Mobile MLG Pro Circuit, and will start next week on April 13 (Friday), in Charlotte, North Carolina (NC).

This year's MLG event is expected to churn out more than US$ 1 million in prizes and pro-gamer bonuses for the duration of the tour, making this the largest prize purse the tour has carried since the league's founding in 2002.

In further news, the league has also announced that it will be adding a new game to its competition line up: Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six: Vegas game for the Xbox 360, published and developed by Ubisoft. In reaction to the news, MLG CEO Mike Sepso said, "We are thrilled that we can share the success of the League in the form of a record prize purse, and welcome Ubi to the Pro Circuit."

The Boost Mobile 2007 Pro Circuit competition will be taking place at five announced cities, with the last two locations to be announced on a further date:
  • April 13 to 15: Charlotte, NC
  • June 8 to10: Meadowlands, NJ
  • July 20 to 22: Dallas, TX
  • August 17 to 19: Chicago, IL
  • September 21 to 23: Orlando, FL
  • National Playoffs and Championship Match: Date and location TBA
Stay posted in case more news drop in regarding this upcoming game tour. Who knows, pro-gamers like Thomas Taylor (a.k.a., Tsquared) may be sighted among the list of competitors.

Again, the main event for Halo 2 is 4v4 while the main event for for Super Smash Bros. Melee is the 1v1. Final Boss took first place in the Halo 2 4v4 yet again, but for the first time since their contract. It must feel very good to win under this new pressure! Ken and Isai took first yet again in SSBM 2v2. Final Boss has only lost a tournament once while Ken and Isai have never lost a tournament match, ever. Very impressive work by both teams in their respective games!

Karma took first place in Halo 2's 1v1 yet again .That man is a beast! As is Ken, the winner for the 1v1 for SSBM. The guy who lost to Ken was PC Chris, someone who was able to beat him once this year back at MLG New York. PC Chris continues to improve so it should be interesting to see how they do next time they meet. MLG Chicago takes place July 21st to July 23rd, so check back then!

Halo 2Who says playing video games will get you nowhere in life? The Halo 2 clan Team Final Boss signed an impressive $1 million gaming contract with the MLG, while the leader of team Str8 Rippin known as Tom "Tsquared" Taylor signed his own contract for $250,000. Team Final Boss is currently undefeated in the 2006 MLG season, and they took home the National Championships in 2004 and 2005. Taylor, the leader of the only team to defeat Team Final Boss in the 2005 Pro Circuit, has even started his own gaming-tutor business at Gaming-Lessons.com and has been featured on Stuff Magazine's "Successful Under 30s List." It's nice to see that the MLG is serious about building a strong league of gamers, and hopefully we'll see them make more advances in the near future. On another note, Red Bull has been named as the official drink of MLG, so drink up!
