Even Time took an interest to it. In fact, it impressed them so much that it earned itself a place among the ranks of Time's 50 Best Inventions of 2009.

Video Games Live: Greatest Hits - Volume One album to be released this October - Image 1Soundtracks designed for video games have evolved a lot since the first synthesized beep was created years ago. Indeed, music in the interactive gaming industry has gone a long way. Now you can hear entire musical scores dedicated for a single game.

EMI Classics has pushed this concept further as they, Video Games Live and IMG Artist, are planning to release an album filled with some of the best known and most popular video game music of all time.

Entitled Video Games Live: Greatest Hits - Volume One includes medleys from various well-known games such as Zelda, Mario, Halo, Warcraft, Sonic, Tron, Myst, Civilization IV and Final Fantasy. The album was compiled by Tommy Tallarico and Jack Wall, reknowned video game composers and Video Games Live co-creators. Included as well are the Slovak National Orchestra and the Crouch End Chorus and the "Video Game Pianist," Martin Leung.

The album will be released on October 19, coinciding with this year's Video Games Live event on the same day at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles and on October 22 at London's Royal Festival Hall, performed by the Philharmonic Orchestra.

Tron and Discs of Tron (Xbox 360 Live Arcade), Disney Interactive Studios - Image 1Tron and Discs of Tron (Xbox 360 Live Arcade), Disney Interactive Studios - Image 2

The Master Control Program (MCP) does not comment, but it does not hide these screens of Disney Interactive's Tron and Discs of Tron arcade conversions for the Xbox 360. The MCP also announces that these two games will be released this summer in honor of the 25th anniversary of the cult classic "Tron."

Which, given that movie's plot, it's certainly weird for a computer program to celebrate its own demise. We don't see XP doing that after Vista's release.

Presuming you're too young to remember the film, the two arcade games, its references in Kingdom Hearts II, and how to use Wikipedia... Tron recreates some of the digital-world games of the movie, the battle-tank game, the iconic light-cycle race, the grid bugs and the final battle against the MCP itself. Discs of Tron, on the other hand, revolves around one game only, the jai alai-esque beat-the-b******-with-a-Frisbee game. The Xbox 360 conversions will feature both original and enhanced graphics.

Discs of Tron - Image 1

The latest ESRB listing, once again prognosticates that a new game is set to arrive for a next-gen console of your choice. In this case it's for Microsoft's Xbox 360. This time, it's for a game listed as Discs of Tron. Yes. Hardcore Tron fans rejoice. The listing credits Buena Vista Games as publisher of the game. Weird thing is, aren't they now known as Disney Interactive? Anyhow, Disney Interactive's response to questioning from the folks of IGN was just your standard "no comment."

It is still unsure if this will be a remake of the game or if it will be a re-release on XBLA of the arcade classic. The folks from TeamXbox.com seem to think that it is indeed a release for XBLA of the classic game that was based on the fight scene between Flynn and Sark in the original movie.

While TeamXbox seems pretty adamant about the existence of this game, IGN chooses to lean on the side of caution and lists this as rumor.
