There's this guy named OBsIV who is so brilliant that he was able to play Halo 2 on the Xbox 360 with Nintendo's motion-sensing remote controllers Wiimote and Nunchuk. According to our guy, he calls this project "Xbox 360 Input Machine" or "XIM" and definitely providing Wii60 owners the best gaming experience.
Aside from the obvious and already mentioned tools, OBsIV also used the peripheral XFPS 360. He added that one great thing about the accessory is that it circumvents the Xbox 360's security which usually prohibits third parties from creating alternate input devices, not to mention it being able to convert PS2 controller input to Xbox 360 input. The developer did a lot of other things with the project that concerns hardware, software and even firmware. If you want to know the technical details, you can click on our Read link below and browse through the project's whole description. If you only want to be amazed, then go ahead and watch the video below. |

How's this quote from Microsoft's Peter Moore; “Dual platform ownership of Xbox 360 and Wii could be as high as 40% depending on what territory we are talking about. The influence of the Wii-60 movement seems to be growing enormously.” Personally I got a little tired of the whole Wii60 "movement" about 10 minutes after the phrase was coined, specifically when fanboys began to use it as a weapon, I'm also not sure about where Peter's getting his numbers. There's also the little fact that the Regginator has openly come out to essentially say "we won't be playing second fiddle thanks" and good on Ninty I say. Still, Moore goes on to heap even more praise on the house that Mario built, adding, “I have been on the record many times talking about my admiration for Nintendo and the innovation that Wii brings. I am not even sure Nintendo fully understands what it has on its hands”. I suppose there's no harm in it, but it just comes across like he's trying a little to hard to butter up Nintendo fans for an Xbox 360 purchase. So is it working? My reservations aside, it seems as though Moore's comments on the Wii60 movement taking off might end up being true, if not because of the PS3's high price point, simply because there will be so few of them available at launch, the end result being that even many of those who do want one will leave stores empty handed... or with a Wii in tow. That's definitely the case with me, I do want a PS3, but it's unlikely I'll be able to get one at launch, whether it's due to financial constraints or hardware availability, the end result will be the same. It's pretty likely I'll end up getting Gears of War, a Wii, an extra Wiimote and Zelda. Oh Peter, you're so crazy! |

A Boston-based research firm have predicted the PS3 as the winner of the next-generation console war by 2011, with the Xbox 360 taking second place and Nintendo's revolutionary Wii console coming in third in the North American territory. The research firm called 'Yankee Group' predicts that the PS3 will steal 44 percent of cumulative console sales in North America by 2011, with 30 million units sold. Microsoft is expected to sell nearly 27 million units, taking up 40 percent of the market, while the Wii is forecasted by the company to sell a little over 11 million units, taking just 16 percent of the intense console market. Yankee also predict that all 3 manufacturers will lose out with less next generation consoles being sold than the PS2, original Xbox and Gamecube due to high prices. The Yankee Group analysts have also said that Microsoft are 'well-positioned' to cut the price of the Xbox 360 in Spring 2007, effectively undercutting the mighty $600 PS3 even more, maybe even further encouraging the idea of a Wii60 - buying a Wii and an Xbox 360 for the same price, or cheaper than buying a PS3. Now lately we've been barraged with a lot of speculations by a lot of people. While some may have points worth considering, it's still necessary to bear in mind that all these talks about how things'll go with the console wars are just opinions of an individual or a group of individuals. When it comes down to it, all of these are figures; it's still up to us to decide which console to patronize. Or, we can always choose to have all three - the more the merrier right? |

It seems the Wii60 train has not slowed down since its launch at E3! This time, it's not Peter Moore or Perrin Kaplan, it's Andre Vrignaud. Vrignaud is the former director of Xbox Live and a current member of the Xbox Platform Strategy Group. What does he have to say?"[The announcement of the 6 EA Wii titles] also shows a strong level of industry support for the direction Nintendo has taken with lower-cost hardware and their unique control scheme," he says. "I'm actually a big fan of the Wii (although I'll add my voice to the chorus and state they should have stuck with Revolution for a name). My time with it at E3 showed a lot of potential for new game ideas and new ways to play. That said, kudos to EA for stepping up and supporting one of the more original attempts to invigorate the game industry in recent history!" It's great to see people speaking so openly without fear of being fired by their employers! Microsoft is really starting to be a PR wonder, especially when compared to the mess that Sony's PR is in right now! |

Both Sony and Microsoft execs have been quick to point out that Wii would make an excellent companion piece to their respective consoles, and the net's been aflame with supporters from both camps championing the advent of the Wii60 and the PSWii. Nintendo for their part must be loving every minute of it since they get the best of both worlds, they have a loyal fan base waiting in the wings to snap up the Wii, and even their former competitors consumers are showing signs of interest. But how many of us are actually going to pick up a Wii in addition to our PS3's and Xbox 360's? Both the 360 and the PS3 are aiming to give you a somewhat similar experience (let's not split hairs), they're both looking to wow you with awesome next generation, high definition visuals, bombastic physics, seamless network functionality and games so epic in scale and scope they would have been impossible to achieve on the previous generation of hardware. The Wii on the other hand seems to offer a quieter, more communal experience, with the emphasis on getting a few folks over for some good natured fun. With that in mind it's no wonder many Sony and Microsoft gamers see how Nintendo's consoles would help balance their gameplay. What draws some is the recognition of the potentially different experience that the Wii offers, and wariness of the heart-stoppingly high price of purchasing both a PS3 and a 360. Can we really afford to buy games on multiple platforms at a price of $60 a title? Buying two games a month for each console would come to almost $380! For others the Wii offers an avenue of return to franchises long since abandoned or forgotten in favor of more "grown up" fare, franchises like Mario, Zelda and Metroid, as well as a return to the familiar addictive Nintendo style of play promised by titles like Wii Sports and Excite Truck. That said there are still many gamers content with just one console, either because they simply don't want another, or can't afford the added cost, both perfectly valid reasons. What do you guys think, will you be getting a Wii as a second console, or sticking exclusively to your platform of choice, for whatever reason? Let us know in the comments and by voting in the poll (it's in the far right sidebar, scroll down about halfway down the page). |

There have been more and more talks about the "Wii60" as Microsoft and Nintendo reps have been surprisingly friendly towards each other. The "400 + 200 = 600" argument has been talked of a lot lately. Well, the man who started it all - Peter Moore, seems to be liking the idea more and more. So much, that he'll be going the Wii60 path as well! "Well I hope my friend Reggie [Fils-Aime] sends me one, I don't know. [laughs] Look I was there when Iwata-san pulled out that thing. I was there in the front row in Tokyo... and I said [to myself] "You've got to give 'em kudos for trying." And I'm literally going to go over there tomorrow and try to find Reggie or find Perrin [Kaplan] and I think Mario's the game... if you've got to play one game it's Mario. I'm sure I'll get one. Right now I'm trying to get my Brain Age down [laughs]. Look, it's not partisan; I love what Nintendo is doing. They're in a different space... and there's this view now that you buy a 360 for Halo, Grand Theft Auto, Gears of War, all the other stuff we got going, and if you want Metroid, you want Zelda, you want Mario, you go get a Wii. And you put the two together and it's probably the same price as the PS3." He wants to play the Nintendo franchises and he'll be getting a Wii to play them. He even reveals he has a Nintendo DS and is currently playing Brain Age: Train Your Brain in Minutes a Day! |
