The Matrix - Image 1

If to this day, you still don't know what exactly the Matrix is, you don't have to feel left out. The ground-breaking action movie and its sequels are back, and this time, they're remastered in high-definition quality visuals to enhance the already eye-popping special effects.

Join Neo, Trinity, and Morpheus in their quest to find the truth and save the last remaining pockets of humanity from extermination at the hands of the merciless machines that they themselves created. To better understand the plot that the movie carries, Microsoft prepared a special treat for you.

If you buy the complete trilogy, you can go to the Xbox Live Video Marketplace and download The Animatrix spin-offs of the hit movie series. The Animatrix sheds light on some of the mysteries that the first film started, making the transition to Reloaded and Revolutions smoother. Today is the last day for the freebie so you have to hurry if you really want the freebies.

Who's the next American Idol?

While people are rallying around with pitchforks and flaming torches to take part in the unending console wars, it's time to take a step back and view things differently. The gaming industry is aggressive and sometimes even rabid - there's no secret there. But gaming aside, another campaign being fought is that of the next-gen media format: the digital download.

The "movie download" industry has actually already started for quite some time now. You've got companies like Cinemanow and Movielink that are pretty well-established and successful already. New in the game would be the services provided by Starz's "Vongo" and Amazon's "Unbox".

Of course, this whole service wouldn't be just as booming without the specialized setup methods and software needed to download the content. What you need in your living room is a set top box to which content can be quickly transferred and is easily accessed by the user.

Cue in Sony, Microsoft, and Apple. Cue in props: PS3, Xbox 360, and Apple TV. Three new players in the game and it looks like it's going to be one fierce battle to be reckoned with.

Helm's Deep hasn't seen a battle this intense. Just before you pick up your pitchforks once again, click on the "Full Article" link below to see the 411.

XBLVM

The Live Video Marketplace has been around for almost two months now, and it's reaping rewards far beyond some of us might have expected. With Game Industry's recent report of XBLVM doing better than Amazon's Unbox downloading service, forecasts are flying left and right of how high Microsoft can reach with Xbox Live.

A recent analysis from Emerging Media Dynamics has reported that Microsoft could actually make US$ 92.25-million in this year alone. Stretching this forecast even further, they say that by 2011, their revenue could sky rocket to US$ 726-million.

Forecasts are forecasts, and only time can tell if it's proven to be true. So far though, it's possible. What with the recent developments with incorporating an IPTV feature, we're bound to see lots of action for the next couple of years.

Xbox Live Video MarketplaceFollowing the technical difficulties experienced by users who tried to download videos over the new Xbox Live Video Marketplace earlier this week, Microsoft has promised that it will refund any money lost by users in the process.

Larry Hryb, Xbox Live's director of programming, has admitted that high levels of demand have led to all sorts of problems.

According to Hryb, "These technical issues have resulted in a very unpleasant experience for our members, including extremely slow downloads or not receiving the content they purchased." Hryb also added that "the team is prepared to make things right for those affected, including refunding Microsoft Points where appropriate and as quickly as possible."

Microsoft also said that it currently has staff working around the clock in order to solve the problems, and that anybody who experienced a problem or lost points without getting what they tried to downloaded is advised to call 1-800-4MYXBOX. Questions will also be entertained by Microsoft staff at the Video Marketplace forum on Xbox.com.

Video Marketplace

Yesterday the eagerly awaited Xbox Live Video Marketplace which was announced a few weeks ago went live, giving Xbox Live users access to movies and TV shows from the comfort of your 360 in a flash for all US Xbox Live members.

You don't even need a dashboard update to see it either, so just head over to the Marketplace, then select Media and Entertainment. You can also get to the XBLVM directly by going to Media blade->Video Marketplace. Although this is not available in all countries yet, everyone should watch for it. If the US launch of the XBLVM is successful, the worldwide launch shouldn't be far off.

Some users are having difficulty with this service, so head over to the official Marketplace forum on Xbox.com for help from members of the Marketplace team.

How much will it cost? High-definition TV shows will be 240 Microsoft Points per episode, and standard-definition TV shows will be 160 Microsoft Points per episode. New release movies in HD will cost you 480 Microsoft Points, and standard-definition new release movies will be 320 Microsoft Points each. Classic feature films in high definition will be 360 Microsoft Points, and standard definition will be 240 Microsoft Points. Sound confusing? It is a little, but just try to remember: nothing will cost more than 480 MS Points!
