Even if Chrono Trigger stands as one of the best RPGs ever to come out the then Squaresoft bag of tricks, you might say that Square Enix didn't follow-up on the fame as well as the fans would like. So along came Chrono Trigger: Crimson Echoes, a fan-created ROM hack sequel to the time-travelling adventures of Crono and company. Unfortunately for the devs of the project, Square Enix just whipped out the dreaded C&D order, demanding that they destroy the 98% complete project. You might feel as bad as I do especially after you watch the trailer.

We seemed to have missed this over the weekend, but just in case you're not one of the tens of thousands of people who've already viewed this on YouTube, here's one that's definitely for the books. It shows some leaked footage from Ubisoft showing what could possibly be an E3 2009 trailer for Beyond Good and Evil 2. It's got a lot of action reminiscent of the first game - only now on some high-octane 'roids and ditching the whole stealth aspect, while doing some Mirror's Edge-like free running across a town littered with cops.

This one's pretty old, but for those of you who haven't seen it yet, it might be little treat for you guys. YouTube video game songstress katethegreat19 sings along to the theme of Alexandria's General Beatrix, Rose of May, with her own lyrics. It's pretty cool.

Just like what they do with their infamous Closed Mega Theater, Square Enix held private screenings for two of their high-profile properties: Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children Complete, and a quick tease for Final Fantasy XIII (PS3, Xbox 360). Again, a select few get to see some Squeenix booty ahead of the rest of us. In the meantime, let's take a look at stuff we're allowed to see.

They say that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. Well, tell that to the police forces of Prince William, Montgomery, and Fairfax Counties, who are outraged because of the poor depictions of them and their cruisers in Grand Theft Auto. Again? That's two for GTA today!

Ubisoft has launched a teaser site for Assassin's Creed 2, dropping a few more hints at the sequel's setting via a da Vinci-esque Flash video. A Renaissance setting perhaps? You can check out a video after the jump.

Hungry for more Final Fantasy XIII (PS3, Xbox 360)? Well there's a new development vid right here, and you can watch more clips of the long-awaited title. Video and audio quality isn't very good (unless you watch it in HD), and all of it is in Japanese, but at least you can get a glimpse of what's to come.

Monday morning in Virgina, a 6-year-old kid misses his bus to school. What's a kid to do? He's about to be late! Well, obviously, take your family's car and get your tardy butt to the campus, of course! And that's just what the kid (name undisclosed, so we'll just call him "Lil Nicky" - you'll know why in a bit) did. Aren't kids just amazing these days? If they're not fighting battles in court to legalize hedgehogs, they're driving themselves to school.

The rivalry continues, and now the games are getting in on it. When you get Resident Evil 5 (PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360) next year, you'd find yourself torn between the console wars as to which exclusive has a greater pull - for the PS3? Or the Xbox 360? RE5 offers one thing for PS3, and another for Xbox 360 - offers are exclusive so you'll just have to compare and decide who got the better out of the new RE.

Awww... so it was a professional production after all. I was ready to give those "neighborhood kids" a boxload of Mario stars for the superb "Bike Hero" clip they did for Guitar Hero: World Tour (Xbox 360, PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, Wii), until Activision told the bursting-your-bubble-truth about the pros behind this smart marketing scheme of theirs.
